  2. Why go on exchange? International Master’s programme International lecturers International student group Intercultural theme You also need actual international partners! The closure of one of the majors in the Master’s programme: speech communication. Intercultural Communication was still needed in the programme and the solution was to find international partners.

Goals of the exchange Comprehensive development of cooperation: • Lecturer exchange • Collaboration courses, e.g. in Moodle • Student exchange • Content development • Thematic seminars and workshops, joint articles, sharing and comparison of research, research groups, involvement of postgraduate students

Programme Stellenbosch 30.11-7.12 November 30th: Flight via Munich to Cape Town December 1st: Arriving to Cape Town, meeting University staff at the airport, staying in Cape Town for township visit. December 2nd: Cape Town, township tour December 3rd: Driver picking up from Cape Town to Stellenbosch. Visiting the International Office at the University of Stellenbosch. December 4th: In the morning a lecture about ICE Master Programme and its multidisciplinarity nature, and a small field trip around Stellenbosch while getting familiar with the research done in Stellenbosch. December 5th: Meetings and lectures with staff and students in the MA in Intercultural Communication. Discussing the course and degree requirement suitableness among our programs. Discussing about the cooperation with Helsinki Summer School Course in 2015. In the afternoon Library visit with students and a small field trip. Agreeing the future cooperation in teaching and research projects. December 6th: Reading in the morning, no possibility to entrance the University because of the electricity power cut. Travel Day, leaving from Stellenbosch to the Airport. December 7th: Travel day, flying through Munich arriving to Helsinki.

  5. Results: University of Burgundy • 7 ICE students going to Dijon in spring 2016 • 10 MA in Intercultural Management students coming to Helsinki in autumn 2016. They have the opportunity to attend restricted ICE Intro courses • Future cooperation courses with University of Burgundynkanssa:1) Immigration and Integration Services from the Finnish PerspectiveCourse in Moodle, one joint video session and comparative pair work Finland/France 2) Career Clinic. ICEwork life course with specialist panels and visits, cooperation under development • Professor Alexander Frame has visited Helsinki in May 2014 and spring/autumn 2015 and lectured parts of courses. Frame might be act as a second thesis supervisor for some students. • Personal visit to Dijon Autumn 2014 and again in November 2015. Will start Moodle course with University of Burgundy and give induction on ICE Master’s Programme for autumn 2016 • Getting to know University of Burgungy´s Intercultural Communication research and research groups (UB has a lot of European partners)

  6. Results: Stellenbosch University Excellent contact Dean Christine Anthonissen who lectured a course in the Helsinki Summer School in summer 2015, courtesy of ICE. Another course is planned for summer 2016. Christine Anthonissen writes a joint article with ICE lecturer Sarri Vuorisalo-Tiitisen on Intercultural Communication and Multilingualism Dr.Johan Oosthuizen from Stellenbosch is lecturing a course offered by ICE in Helsinki Summer Schoolissa in summer 2014 Planned Intercultural Communication 30ECTS studies with maximum contact teaching hours in Stellenbosch in Spring 2017 (February – April). Possibility to attend for ICE students with Free Mover Scholarship. Stellenbosch will send students to Helsinki Summer School and hopefully also applicants to ICE programme in the future In cooperation workshop: Focus on the languages and narratives of migrants from African countries to South Africa, visit to South African HIV/AIDS day clinic, engagement of postgraduate students to part of cooperation
