  1. What is Love? Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.

  2. Do you think teenagers have the ability to truly “love” another person in a relationship?

  3. People often confuse love with attraction. We may engage in deep intimate acts with someone because our attractions are strong... …..only to find out that we didn’t likethe idea of being with that person for the rest of our lives.

  4. JPII on Love: “For love is not merely a feeling; it is an act of will that consist of preferring, in a constant manner, the good of others to the good of oneself.”

  5. LOVE • A decision to will the good of another person. • Involves a sincere gift of oneself to others. In order for people to love one another properly, they must first desire what is good for the other person.

  6. JPII: Three Aspects of Love • LOVE AS ATTRACTION • Recognizing the good of another person; seeing the inner and outside beauty of another person. • LOVE AS DESIRE - Wanting a good for yourself; desiring goodness and happiness. • LOVE AS GOODWILL • Willing (or desiring) the good of another person.

  7. So is love… SELF-SEEKING? or SELF-DONATING? Self Donating! Self Seeking  Lust. Self-Donating  Love.

  8. CCC on Lust: “Lust is a disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure.” -2351 Lust must NOT be confused with sexual attraction, because Sexual Attraction is good!

  9. Lust • Sexual desire apart from God’s love • Selfishly seeks one’s own pleasure at the expense of another. Result of sin  “twisting” of sexual desire in our hearts.

  10. “Love seeks to give; lust seeks to get.” Our sexuality is a gift through which we can choose to be generous or selfish. “Love stories” portrayed in modern culture can often be seen as “Lust stories.”

  11. What is the secret to true love? Love Defined: Giving vs. Using

  12. Check for Understanding! On your Post It Notes, answer the following questions: • What are the three aspects of love according to Pope John Paul II? • What is the difference(s) between love and lust?

  13. What can direct our desires and attitudes toward the truth of love? CHASTITY! Chastity is MUCH MORE than abstinence, which means “not having sex.”

  14. CHASTITY Not merely learning to control one’s desires, but is learning how to love rightly and purely. • Says “yes” to the demands of love!

  15. CHASTITY Falls under the virtue of TEMPERANCE. This virtue controls and moderates our desire for pleasure, enabling us to enjoy pleasure in good things the way God intends.

  16. What is Chastity?
