  1. Tambov region during World War II

  2. The Great Patriotic War was a dramatic page in the history of mankind, the country and town. The biggest conflict in history had lasted almost six years. Some 100 million people had been militarized, and 50 million had been killed. Of those who had died, 15 million were soldiers, 20 million were Russian civilians, six million were Jews and over four million were Poles.

  3. Thousands of our countrymen took part in it. They were awarded orders and medals, 876 of them are Heroes of the Soviet Union. Traditionally people in Tambov come to the memorial complex, and the Eternal Flame located in the middle of Sobornaya, the former Oktyabrskaya Square, to commemorate the heroism of people during the Great Patriotic War.

  4. Do you know something about contemporaries of war? Сontemporaries of war are children of war. They did not fight, but lived in war. This is the history of one woman-nurse: Сontemporaries of war

She was 16 years old, when fascists occupied her native Donetsk. Her parents died during the bombardment. Starvation and devastation became the constant concomitants of her war youth. Troop trains with injured men arrived every day. There was not enough medical care to alleviate pains of soldiers. Young Sasha came to military hospital to work as a nurse. “Many years have passed ever since, and I still remember that severe time”, Alexandra Gurievna says. “Women sobbed heart out, seeing off their husbands, fathers and brothers to the front. Many of the soldiers did not come back home. Our army could win thank to stoic support of workers of labor fronts. We worked day and night, in extreme conditions. Paying no regard to weariness, we forged our victory. Work in the hospital was a part of Alexandra Gurievna’s front biography. At that time her contemporaries did not think about awards, they wanted to get to the firing line. And she, casting down her eyes, asked to send her to the epicenter of warfare. The military enlistment office sent Alexandra Gordeeva to the 17th air army. In the ranks of the army she was involved in liberation of Odessa, passed through the whole Europe, Victory Day was celebrated in Austria.

The whole Vienna rejoiced 62 years ago, the victory was celebrated by all people irrespective of nationality: The elation was so great, I could not remember anything of that kind for all my life.
