The Standards Verification Process • To be completed in the following order: • Accept allocations • Contact the Quality Nominee for the centre using the template found on the ‘Gateway’ • Check Quality Nominee details are correct and they have accessed the BTEC Quality Assurance Handbook – 2013-14 • (With particular reference to Chapter 6, which relates specifically to NQF BTECs from 2012)

  6. The Standards Verification Process • The Quality Nominee will put you in touch with the relevant Programme Manager or Lead IV • CHECK: • Registered as Lead IV • Accessed the OSCA materials and have standardised with the rest of the team

The Standards Verification Process • Confirm that the centre has produced an assessment plan showing: • Unit No. & Title • Assignment No. & Title • Learning Aim/s • Assessment Criteria • Hand Out Date • Formative Feedback Date • Hand In Date • Summative Assessment Date • IV Sampling Date • Resubmission Date • Assessor Name • IV Name

  8. The Standards Verification Process • Ask for the Assessment Plan to be sent to you so you can plan your visit • Use the Assessment Plan to select the units to be sampled based on the sampling process rules and unit groupings

The Standards Verification Process • The sample must be selected as follows: • Learners included in the sample must be registered on the qualification • All unit groupings must be included • Because of the emphasis on the Core units, the Core internally assessed unit(s) must be part of every complete sample, verified at the earliest opportunity

Sampled work, should mostly, but not necessarily exclusively, subject to internal verification • For each learner the assessment decisions for at least one assignment towards the unit have been internally verified • 4. Selected learners must represent the full range of achievement in terms of the grades awarded • A significant proportion of the sample must include learners who have successfully achieved the unit

  11. The Standards Verification Process • 5. The sampled work must include assessment by most or all assessors on the programme. This should happen naturally due to the grouping of units

The Standards Verification Process • Agree a sampling date: • This date should be as early as possible and before June 30th • Once a date has been agreed enter this on EOL • Ask the centre to send their assignment briefs to you as soon as possible: • Check if the assignment is: • Original • Adapted authorised assignment brief • Assignment checking service has been used

  15. The Standards Verification Process • Confirm the assignment(s) are fit for purpose: • Let the centre know if there are any issues • Start to complete the report on-line and save your work • Proceed with Standards Verification on the scheduled sampling date

The Standards Verification Process • Sampling Exceptions: • Often a centre delivering over a two year period may not have completed sufficient units by the end of the sampling window in the first year of the programme • If a centre in the first year of it’s programme cannot provide the full sample by the end of the sampling window, you can look at an incomplete sample: • Less learner unit’s then specified • Just assignments • Remember: Any learner-units sampled must be complete units

  17. The Standards Verification Process • Partial Sample: • If you can only do a partial sample you MUST tick ‘NO’ in the report for ‘Release certification’. This will cause a ‘Sampling Incomplete’ box to appear • You MUST tick this box. This will mean that the centre is neither ‘Released’ nor ‘Blocked’ but has the status ‘NYFS’ • ‘Not Yet Fully Sampled’

The Standards Verification Process • Partial Sample: • ‘NYFS’: • The centre should be allocated to you the next year • In year 2 the sample you have started must be complete • It is not necessary to re-examine anything that you have already verified, but your report outcome must reflect the sample as a whole • Release the centre if there were no essential actions anywhere in the total sample whether in year 1, or year 2 report

The Standards Verification Process • Partial Sample: • ‘NYFS’: • Only once an entire sample has been verified will a release/block outcome be generated, and an allocation for a second sampling generated where necessary • Only essential actions in the first half of the report will be verified in year 2 • Remember: • Reporting on an incomplete sample can only be considered if the centre is in the first year of delivery of a 2 year programme so will not require certification for learners
