  1. MCS Parent Orientation2014-2015 Welcome to one of the Top 50 Christian High Schools in America as rated by BestSchools.org!

  2. The Vision of MCS “To train future generations to live a life consistent with a Biblical worldview.”

  3. Education Changes Affecting MCS • Graduation Requirements Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT) being replaced with “end of course exams.” Current sophomores (2017) must still pass OGT to graduate. MCS is exempt from the new “end of course exams” for the 2014-2015 school year.

  4. Education Changes • Learning Standards New standards in Math and English are called Common Core. MCS is not adopting the new standards, but we do need to know what content is taught at each grade level at other schools and what content is on the state mandated tests (OAA, OGT, ACT). Our Christian values ultimately drive what we determine gets into our curriculum. This is a fundamental difference in MCS and public schools.

  5. Education Changes • State Tests New tests will be given this year replacing the Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA) in grades 3-8. Expected to be more difficult. MCS will continue to administer these tests at applicable grade levels.

  6. Education Changes • Third Grade Reading Guarantee Passing score for the reading assessment in third grade has increased. This does apply to MCS in the third grade and has for several years.

  7. Education Changes • School Schedules Move from days to instructional hours this year. Most schools have more hours than required. No changes locally due to “negotiated agreements” that are in place (union contracts). No changes yet for MCS to stay aligned for busing, athletics, vacations, etc.

  8. Education Changes • Report Cards Public schools get report cards based on tests scores, graduation rates, attendance rates, etc. These report cards do not apply to private schools like MCS. Our evaluation is done by ACSI and AdvancEd during an intense on-site analysis in the fall of 2015. Your input will be essential to this process!

  9. Thank you for choosing Mansfield Christian and for training future generations to live a life consistent with a Biblical worldview! Have a wonderful school year and God bless you!
