  1. Parent Orientation 2014 Open House

  2. Welcome • Prayer • Meet the staff • School supplies may be checked in the rest of this week or any day there is office help in the morning when school starts • Senior Postsecondary credits (ACT-21) • Student IDs – Please send $5 - everyone

  3. Student records • Need shots, birth cert, soc sec card • Need up to date names, phones, and addresses • Emails available from students and parents may be used for access to Teacherease and other systems • Need LEAP scores • Need copies of official transcripts from all classes not taken at LCHS • BEST numbers, etc.

  4. tuition • Must be paid on time • Due 1st week of the month • Do not send child to school after the 5th of the month if tuition is delinquent • No personal checks ( do cash or money order) • Can view updated account info on Teacherease • All seniors have a $300 graduation fee that is due on Dec 31 • All 8th graders have a $100 grad fee due in February • Scholarship students are covered by state

  5. uniforms • Tennis shoes must be ALL black or ALL white • Skirts must be long (calf length) and loose; this includes blue jean skirts on Friday; do not violate this policy • Outer wear for class must be ALL navy blue and lightweight. No cheer jackets or other outer wear with colored trim. Letterman jackets or newly ordered school sweatshirts are acceptable • T-shirts on Fridays must be Christian or school related; no plain t-shirts; girls may not wear tight fitting undershirts; wear a t-shirt • Belts; no slabbing

Uniforms – girls hair • No dyed or bleached hair or extreme colored weave; our discretion will rule in these matters • No false hair is our preference and our church’s standard; if false hair is present, it must be PULLED BACK INTO A NEAT BUN– not ponytail. If it can’t be done, there is too much hair. • Disciplinary action will be issued for hair infractions; student will given a time to correct and suspension will result if not corrected

Uniforms – boys hair • Our church’s standard is that boys should have a short neat haircut. • If a boy has longer hair that hair must be worn flat to the head (example braided cornrows); it must be neat • No rubber bands should be present except to pull together at the base of the neck • No hair is to hang down back; it must be tucked in shirt collar • No extreme haircuts; no designs or patterns cut into the head • Naturally grown hair must be neat and edged

Uniforms – boys hair • Students should look conservative; not extreme • The school’s discretion about inappropriateness of hair will govern decisions • Uncorrected matters will be handled by suspension; Remember that our church standard does not allow for some of these things; Therefore we will not tolerate lack of adherence to this minimal set of rules

Uniforms – other • Outerwear must be all navy blue • Shoes should be ALL black or ALL white • All skirts should be loose fitting and calf length • No jewelry except watches. • Hats, caps, doo rags, scarves, sweatbands, dark glasses, curlers, wigs, and false hair (except for medical reason) are not allowed. If false hair is present, it must be modestly pulled back and pinned into a bun. No extreme hair decorations of any kind are to be worn • Tattoos are prohibited. If a tattoo exists, it must be covered. • Student policy handbook is online but does need some updates

Discipline / Respect • To disciple • Teacher will try to handle most minor infractions within the classroom setting • All attempts will be made to discipline without removing the student from the instructional environment • Major infractions or continued minor ones will result in whatever is necessary to keep all students from having their learning disrupted • We have a progressive discipline plan • Our first goal is a productive learning environment for all; our second goal is to help YOU to build the proper behaviors in your children

Discipline / Respect • Our basic discipline plan has 4 levels • Student behaviors are logged and accumulated in teacherease (parents can view these logs) • A child accumulating 3 or more infractions in a week will lose Friday “Hang” time which is a privilege; this is “LISS”– they will also be marked as a level 1 on progression • A reoccurrence of LISS or something more major will result in a level 2 • A third reoccurrence of LISS or something more major will result in level 3 and require a conference with the parent • Level 4 will result in recommendation for suspension of after school detention

  12. Discipline / Respect • Parents may get more immediate calls depending on the nature of the issue • Some issues will call for immediate suspension • Students are expected to respect all adults on campus • We will try to be patient with children, but your children may not run the campus • We also ask that if you come with issue, please feel free, but do so respectfully • HANG TIME supports positive environment of cooperation • There will also be other positive behavior support tools put in place

  13. Graduation requirements • 4 units in each core area for college • 4 units in math and english for any graduation • Additional credit requirements for scholarship • Additional credit requirements for college entry

Attendance – state law • Student may miss no more than 7 days in a semester • Non-exempted excuses absences DO count toward the 7 • Exempted excused absences are for things such as EXTENDED illness as verified by doc • 3 tardies equate to 1 absence; these are exempted from the count if transferring from class to class, but are counted when late to school or checking out early • School attendance is compulsory for all citizens ages 7 to 18.

  17. athletics • Must maintain at least a 2.0 • $60 and case of soda • May also schedule for donation of certain concession items • May not participate with pervasive behavioral problems • Absence or checking out on game day – no game
