  4. Multiple Meaning Words - words that have several meanings depending upon how they are used in a sentence. Example- I tried to hit the bat with my bat. Non-example- I see the sea from my boat. This is a homophone (words that sound the same but are spelled differently)

  5. The Importance of Identifying and Interpreting Words with Multiple Meanings Good readers must be able to identify which words have more than on meaning. Knowing that words have more than one meaning will help you to understand the text.

  6. Steps to identifying multiple meaning words • Step 1- Read the underlined word. • Step 2- Read the sentence. • Step 3- Look at clues in the sentence to figure out the meaning of the underlined word. • Step 4- Re-read the sentence to make sure your meaning makes sense.
