Wallops LRGS Configuration • The demodulators for both East and West continue to feed the LRGS directly through the DAMS-NT. • cdadata is primary and is available in the case of xmit or DOMSAT failure. • drot should be considered a troubleshooting tool to verify the DOMSAT downlink. • The third site (cdabackup) mirrors cdadata. • Wallops endorses LRGS version 6.1 as standard • Ver 7.0 allows greater number of users to access-this should be the new standard • Accounts are built through NOAA and shared with USGS • Sites and IPs: • http://cdadata.wcda.noaa.gov (205.156.2.174) • http://drot.wcda.noaa.gov (205.156.2.186) • http://cdabackup.wcda.noaa.gov (205.156.2.189)

LRIT Status • LRIT outages continue some planned (recent server maintenance at NSOF)/some unplanned • Largest outage in Mar 09 – resulting in 34 hour outage due to problems at NSOF (domain 4 issue) • Apr 09 Wallops took backup (domains 5 & 6) equipment to NSOF to test Domain 4 (issue is dropped frames from imagery) • OSDPD continues to work to resolve Domain 4 problems • The DCS component of LRIT is transferred from Wallops to Suitland (via Internet) and then back to Wallops (via T-1). • Occasionally , during a planned outage Wallops will simu-cast a single stream to both East and West (this keeps DCS up). • LRIT is an advantage to international users because DOMSAT is limited to CONUS. • 1 meter antenna receives full LRIT stream • There are no re-occurring costs associated with LRIT reception.

  6. Current Spacecraft Status • GOES-12 remains primary (75W) for East • GOES-11 is the primary West (135W) spacecraft. • GOES-10 is positioned (60W) for the South American mission. Imagery operations began in Nov 06 and they continue. No official NOAA commitment to So. Amer. after GOES-10 • GOES-10 to be de-commissioned in Dec 09 • Batteries on GOES-11 look OK. No plan to use GOES-13 for DCS/LRIT/EMWIN during Fall eclipse. • GOES-O launch is scheduled NET June 26 (iffy)

Current GOES-13 Status • GOES-13 placed in storage April 09 • It will remain storage until Jan 2010 • There will be a N/S maneuver and back in storage in Feb 2010 • GOES-13 is positioned at 105 degrees and will remain there until East move next year. • While out of storage the DCS/EMWIN/LRIT transponders will be on. • GOES-13 on station Aug 2010 as GOES-EAST

Spacecraft Constellation • After Aug 2010 GOES-13 will be prime East • After Aug 2010 GOES-11 will be prime West • GOES-12 will be in storage (not enough fuel for further N/S maneuvers) • GOES-13 will be first spacecraft to support 750Hz channelization (function of S/C power) • GOES-O will be placed in storage due to 5 year life (warranty) of instruments. No plans to activate S/C at this point.

Certification • Version 2 (channel splitting & tighter receive filtering) of Cert Standards awaiting OSD ratification • Three test sets to support the new standards are being built (actually existing sets get upgraded) • Test set upgrade expected Jun/Jul 09 • Anticipated OSD sign-off on new standards shortly after test set delivery (only ver 2 will apply) • It is not expected that 100bps will not be supported after ver 2 standards are adopted (this is policy, only 4 years left on 100bps support). • No demods certified since early 2008

  10. Wallops Backup • A second pilot remains active (channel 0) at the WBU. The frequency is 401.7MHz. • Wallops staff has remote control/status capability of the WBU systems including the pilot from Wallops. • LRIT and EMWIN equipment is at WBU & FCDAS but no connectivity to OSDPD – multicast issue.

  11. DAPS • IT team is working security –later slide • Dial-in lines should be terminated and begin the users to transition to the LRGS (Jun 30???) • Telnet stops with DADDS coming on line. • Still supporting telnet (205.156.2.173/178) until then • The Weather Service link has been transitioned to the MPLS. We are seeing fewer dropouts. • Wallops Operations verifies and reports the DCS pilot levels daily.

  12. DOMSAT • $49,524 required to implement Option Period 8 of the DOMSAT contract • Sep 1, 2009 to Aug 31, 2010 (Option Period 8) • NOS is funding FY10. OSO is working with NOS to exercise this option (FY10) • FY12 will be the first year of the follow-on contract • One option period remains under this contract • Wallops in discussion with DOMSAT provider to identify modem options for consideration in follow-on DOMSAT contract discussions (x25 and 56k bandwidth may not be practical after FY12)

  13. DCS - Security • IT team is working on the Certification and Accreditation Package. • The DCS currently under an 18 mo ATO (authority to operate). • New C&A package to include DADDS to begin Oct 1. • C&A package due Mar 2010 (wanted 60 days in adv) • Most of DADDS security H/W in place

  14. DADDS • The DCS Alternate Data Distribution System (DADDS) provides a separate means to distribute data from the demods should DAPS A & B fail. • OSD has been provided requirements to transition to DADDS full time • The system has been used on an as-needed basis to support NWSTG and DOMSAT feeds • Testing during the week of May 4th showed problems; contractor on site May 13th • Database expansion provided to the contractor • Once complete failover to DADDS is accomplished there is no coming back (cannot migrate database backwards)
