Example of an Idea – “Shift 80% of your weight to your backside in load” 4. Example of Feel – “Set up to throw your best punch” 5. Teaching “Feel” allows player to retain athleticism and movement 6. Teaching “Ideas” creates robotic movement and too much thinking

  2. ~ Session #1 – Foundation ~ II. Importance of Strong Foundation A. Stance 1. Width a. Athletic base b. Comfortable & balanced c. Weight distributed evenly 2. Open vs. Closed vs. Parallel 3. Solution – Heel to toe maximum in stance

Set-up and stride drill to separate stride & swing b. Teaches how to stay back – “stride to go back…not to go forward” c. Stride on 1st clap, swing on 2nd clap d. Vary the timing of the claps e. Open eyes vs. closed eyes

  6. ~ Session #1 – Foundation ~ E. Common Problems with Foundation 1. Drifting Forward • a. Caused by long stride • b. Caused by front foot open on stride • c. Caused by fast paced load back • d. Caused by poor timing (late stride) 2. Pulling off the Ball • a. Caused by poor direction closing off backside or opening early • b. Caused by open front foot on stride • c. Caused by upper half getting ahead of lower half in swing
