  1. The Power to meet needs October 20, 2013 Bible Passage John 6:1-71 Explore the Bible: Fall 2013 KJV Series

  2. BACKGROUND PASSAGE OVERVIEW Because of His healing activity on the Sabbath in Jerusalem, Jesus began to face persecution from leaders. At some point, then, He returned to Galilee and resumed His ministry in the towns and areas around the Sea of Galilee. Feeding Hungry People (John 6:1-15): Jesus’ healing miracles attracted huge crowds of followers. On one occasion Jesus fed a crowd miraculously because the people didn’t have enough food to eat. Calming Fearful People (John 6:16-21): When Jesus’ disciples got caught in the storm as they rowed across the sea, Jesus came to them, walking on the water. He calmed their fears and joined them in the boat for the remainder of their journey. Offering “Bread” to Lost People (John 6:22-59): Jesus taught the crowd whom He had fed miraculously that He was the true bread of life. He came to give His body so that people might have eternal life. Deciding About Jesus (John 6:60-71): Jesus’ teaching about giving His life caused some people to quit following Him . When He asked the Twelve if they intended to leave as well, Simon Peter expressed their wholehearted devotion to Jesus.

  3. QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER Why do you think that we as Christians are prone to see the challenge of world hunger in light of our abilities rather than Christ’s power? What resources do you have that you could use in Jesus’ name to help feed the hungry? As a Christian, how do you keep the mission of sharing the gospel and the ministry of helping the needy in proper perspective? KEY DOCTRINE God is the Source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual. Christians are under obligation to serve Him with their time, talents, and material possessions; and should recognize all these entrusted to them to use for the glory of God and for helping others. FAITH IN ACTION Discover how your church is involved in praying for and providing food for groups facing malnourishment and/or starvation. Decide to begin or increase your participation in these churchwide efforts.
