  6. Academics/Behavior • As a member of our Wolves athletic program, you are held to higher standards. Student-athletes will: • Not receive referrals or detentions. • Pass ALL classes. (Failing will cause the student to be ineligible to play-per UIL rules and regulations.) • Will work to do their best in all classes. • Act as ladies and gentlemen in class and act in a respectful manner to all teachers. • ***Failing grades, low conduct marks, and referrals/d-halls will be addressed with extra conditioning and extra tutorials.

  7. Dress Code • Practice Attire: You need to wear black shorts, gray wolf shirt, and athletic shoes(shirts, shorts, and sweats are offered online). (NO jewelry can be worn. Please keep all items in your locker) • Game Attire: You will need to wear your issued uniform (jersey, shorts, and warm-up top) and athletic shoes. • Game Day Attire: On game days athletes will be required to wear team shirts and jeans throughout the school day. Order forms to purchase these shirts will be passed out and emailed in the fall.

  8. Sportsmanship & Attitude • Treat your teammates and coaches like you want them to treat you- with respect, dignity, and tolerance. • The team comes ahead of any person on the team. Do your best to help your teammates play better. • We expect you to display good sportsmanship at all times. • Bring a positive attitude to every practice and game, regardless of whether the team is winning or losing games. We expect players and parents to provide unconditional enthusiasm throughout the season. • Do your best every time you walk on the court. Your teammates and coaches are counting on you.

  9. Absences When you play a team sport, you’re committed to attend every practice and game. When you’re absent you miss a chance to improve and help the team. If you miss a practice for any reason your playing time will be decreased.

  10. Transportation GCISD will provide transportation to and from all athletic events. All players are expected to ride the bus to and from each game. It is important that we support each other as a program. Athletes will be able to work on homework at games in the stands and must remain in the stands or designated area during games when they are not playing.

  11. Athlete/Parent Concerns The policies that have been provided are important for a successful program. However, the key to a successful program comes from communication between the coaches and parents, the coaches and athletes, and the athletes and parents. We encourage the parents to share in their child’s athletic experience and help make it a positive and rewarding one. We do ask that you follow the proper chain of command if a situation arises that would require the need to speak to a coach. Any concerns or questions by an athlete or parent should be brought to the attention of the proper coach in the following order: 1. Have the athlete talk to the coach. Then #2 2. Parent conference with the coach involved. THEN #3 3. Parent conference with the campus Athletic Coordinator. THEN #4 4. Parent conference with the Asst. Principal in charge of athletics. THEN #5 5. Parent conference with the Campus Principal. Those who choose to not follow the above procedure will be directed back by the administration to the level skipped. We know that conflict does arise and it often arises at a game/meet. Please refrain from confronting a coach at the conclusion of a game/meet. We ask that you observe the 24 hour rule. This will allow for all parties to reflect on the situation prior to meeting.

  12. Game Day Meal Forms • Our Booster club does a wonderful job of finding the best deals for us! • Once the teams have been made, we will send home Game Day Meal Forms. The meals usually cost around $5/meal and there will be a meal provided before every game. We will need parent volunteers to pick up meals and deliver them to the athletes on game days. • All game day meals brought by parents need to be delivered to front office. Students may not wait by gym doors

  13. Volunteers/Concession Stand Workers • We will need parents to sign up to help with Concession Stand Workers throughout the entire year. The coaching staff will set up a “Sign-Up Genius” online, however, we will need a parent for each sport to help organize this fundraiser. We would not be able to have a concession stand if it weren’t for you, so thank you in advance for your help!

  14. 7th and 8th Grade Schedules Game schedules will be posted online as soon as we receive them from our Athletic Director, Tim Ford. All volleyball, girls basketball games, and track meets are held on Thursday evenings and they begin at 5:00. Cross Country meets are held on Wednesday evenings and they began at 4:00. Football games are played on Mondays(7th - 4:30 start) and Tuesdays(8th 5:30 start). Boys basketball games are played on Mondays or Fridays(5:00 start). All games will be entered on a comprehensive calendar that is posted online.

  15. What if my son or daughter doesn’t make a team? Basketball is the only cut sport, so if your child doesn’t make the team they have two options: 1.) They can either decide to run cross country. 2.) Or they can participate in off season where they will work on conditioning, agility, and fitness skills.

  16. Basketball/Cross Country/Track/Tennis • Information for the remaining sports will come out as that season draws near. In middle school athletics one sport ends, we have a day to take up equipment, and then the next sport begins. • All athletes not participating in that particular season will work out in offseason during their athletic period. Our offseason program is a not sport specific and is designed to develop overall athletic conditioning of our athletes.

  17. Tennis • The tennis team is open to all academically eligible 7th and 8th graders.  Spring Tennis at CTMS is a non-cut sport, so there are no tryouts. The spring season will count as a sport for Athletics.   • If you have any questions, please feel free to contact coach Boykin at any time.  William Boykin - Math Teacher / Tennis CoachE-Mail – William.boykin@gcisd.net

  18. Soccer • Soccer will begin after track. It is not regulated through UIL in Middle School. It is considered an intramural intra-District sport. Both grades can participate and the teams are combined with 7th and 8th Graders. • For more information please contact • Coach Dunn or Hornberger • Nate.dunn@gcisd.net • Bill.hornberger@gcisd.net
