  1. Yucaipa Cross Country Team Policies

  2. Team Practice • Practice is mandatory if an athlete is on the team, and wishes to participate in meets. • Practice enhances conditioning, requires consistency, and builds team unity, all of which are essential to individual and team success. • Practice is a factor in whether or not an athlete is eligible for varsity status. • If an emergency occurs and the athlete cannot attend practice, please call or text Coach Carney immediately (909-496-4888). Leave your name and reason for absence. • Chronic absences can be dealt with by removal from the team.

  3. Cross Country Meets • Good conduct is expected and required of all athletes when traveling to and from meets. Good sportsmanship is essential at the site of competition, as well. The student-athlete is a representative of Yucaipa High School, and must convey a positive image through his/her actions. • Because of liability concerns, all athletes are to travel with the team to and from race sites. Exception: If the proper paperwork is turned in, a legal guardian may take an athlete home from the race site. Paperwork must be picked up in the office and signed by the parent, principal, and coach. • Athletes may not leave the race site for any purpose without first consulting and receiving permission from the coach. This includes, but is not limited to leaving the race site to purchase food.

  4. Cross Country Meets • Athletes are responsible for wearing the official Yucaipa High School track uniform to meets. Athletes should not assume that there is a location at the race site to change into uniforms. Jewelry (bracelets, earrings, necklaces) is not to be worn in races according to CIF rules. • Athletes must not bring valuables such as: iPods, wallets, purses, etc., to race sites. Students, not coaches, are responsible for their own items. • Athletes are responsible for knowing what time their races are. • Following an athlete’s race, he/she is expected to encourage and support fellow athletes who may still be competing. • No athlete may leave a meet until the conclusion of the final race and after the team has met.

  5. Fundraising • All athletes are expected to raise $100 through fundraising. This helps pay for equipment, races, banquet, coaches and awards throughout the season. The athlete has the option of “buying out” at the parent meeting for $100.

  6. Varsity Lettering • Letters are determined by the coach, but are based on the following criteria: • Attendance at practice • Competing in all races • Academic Eligibility • Adherence to the policies and procedures • Effort in practice and at competitions • Athletes must finish in the top 10 of Yucaipa athletes in 4 of our 8 races
