  2. Procedure • Download data of all 21 Atlantic storms from http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gis/ • Import all data into ArcMap • Data includes positions, tracks, radii, and windswaths • Also import country borderlines

  3. Storm Positions

  4. Procedure • Use Tracking Analyst on position data • Set Data Source from downloaded data for each storm • Set field to DTG • Set organization to STORMNUM

  5. Procedure • Make sure the time fields are in the correct format: yyyyMMddHH

  6. Procedure • Use Tracking Analyst Animation Tool to export movie • Set data range to 6/1/10 and 12/1/10, each at midnight, to get entire hurricane season

  7. Procedure • Select by Attributes for each storm • For Hurricanes: “INTENSITY” > 64 • For Tropical Storms: “INTENSITY” > 34 AND “INTENSITY” < 64 • For Tropical Depressions: “INTENSITY” < 34 • Intensity measured in knots!

  8. Procedure • Create layer from selected feature for each one, for each storm. • Select different symbols for each: • Hurricane • Tropical Storm • Tropical Depression

  10. Gulf of Mexico Storm Tracks T.S. Hermine T.D. Two T.S. Bonnie T.D. Five

  11. Hurricane Earl:Track and Wind Swath 65+ knots 50+ knots 35+ knots
