  1. Boys and Girls Club LA Harbor Receives Molina Foundation Contribution On April 29, Dr. Faustino Bernadett of The Molina Foundation donated 5,400 books to the Boys and Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor. Youth are invited to stop by any of the LA Club’s 7 Grab & Go sites to pick up a free book. Retired physician Faustino Bernadett, his wife Martha M.D., MBA, and their foundation have a long history of caring for the youth of the community, especially those who do not have access to educational resources. They founded The Molina Foundation in 2004: she is the President and CEO, and he is Vice President and Treasurer. This national non-profit organization aims to narrow the gap in access to education and health.

  2. The Molina Foundation: Has worked with more than 2,500 organizations and schools Has donated more than 5.5 million books Hosts workshops and programs for educators and families Works hand-in-hand with community-based organizations Partners with preschool programs, clinics, churches, schools, family service organizations, and civic organizations that serve low-income and at-risk families Dr. Faustino Bernadett and The Molina Foundation are honored to assist the Boys and Girls Club LA Harbor with a contribution of thousands of books. This donation is similar in spirit to the Molina Foundation’s Book Buddies program. This program distributes new books to community agencies serving underprivileged children and families to create word-rich homes. The Foundation also created the WordUp initiative, whereby children and their families are empowered to embrace strong health and literacy skills by using simple activities and tips to prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond. Speaking of kindergarten, On My Way to Kindergarten is another of their initiatives, which features a collection of hands-on resources for children between the ages of three and five to prepare for kindergarten. Dr. Faustino Bernadett, even in retirement, continues his volunteer mission to bridge the divide in access to education and health. About the Boys and Girls Club of LA Harbor The mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles Harbor is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens, through a commitment to quality programs and services in a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment. Originally established in 1937 as the Boys Club of San Pedro, this organization enhances its academic, arts and athletic enrichment programming for all members in grades K through 12. It is the largest private non-profit daily service provider to at- risk youth in the Los Angeles Harbor area. It operates programs at three Clubhouses year round and provides after-school programming at 10 public school campuses.

  3. From art studios and athletics to leadership development and summer camps, the Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles Harbor gives hope to the children, teens and families it serves. Its programs include: Arts Academy, Digital Studio and Arts Studio. Daily athletic and fitness opportunities taking place in three Clubhouses around the area. Tutoring and targeted subject programs to College Bound and Career Bound, with the College Bound program serving more than 1,700 kids and 99 percent of seniors graduating from high school. Back-a-Camper: All-day comprehensive programming, hands-on activities and field trips during summer break. The Boys and Girls Club of LA Harbor recently thanked The Molina Foundation on its Facebook page, to which The Molina Foundation replied that it is “so happy to be able to partner with the Boys and Girls Club of the LA Harbor to bring new books to children in the Los Angeles Harbor area!”.
