  2. What are dolphins? • Dolphins are mammals. This makes dolphins different to fish because they need to come to the surface to breathe air. They also give birth to baby dolphins not eggs like fish.

  3. Dolphin groups • Dolphins like to live in groups called pods. A pod can have as many as 2000 dolphins in it.

  4. What do dolphins eat? • They mainly eat fish and squid but the killer whale which is actually a dolphin eats other sea mammals.

  5. Killer whales • Killer whales or orcas are the largest type of dolphin. They can grow up to 9 metres long and can weigh up to 10 tonnes.

  6. White sided dolphin • The white sided dolphin is so called because the sides of its body are white but some also have a yellow stripe.

  7. Amazon River dolphin • Amazon River dolphins are the biggest type of freshwater dolphin. They have a long beak and are sometimes pink.

  8. Peale’s dolphin • Peale’s dolphins can be found in the sea around South America. They are small dolphins and are mainly black, white and grey.
