  2. Definition of Recreation It is a worthwhile socially accepted leisure, experience that provide immediate and inherent satisfaction to the individual who voluntarily participates in the activities.

  3. It is considered as an area of life in which certain human needs find satisfaction. It is a form of activity, an attempt of self-expression , resulting from man’s urge to be active and to use his facilities and equipments. It is through recreation that man finds his satisfaction of desire to achieve, share,create, win, find approval in his expressed pesonality.

  4. It is any form of experience or activity in which an individual engaged from choice because of the personal enjoyment and satisfaction it brings directly to him. Recreation is the expression of human interest in free time. It is the expression of human interest that seeks satisfaction.

  5. Characteristics of Recreation 1. Recreation involves an activity - The concept of activity for recreation depends in action done mentally, physically, or emotionally. It is not easy to detect an action by observing a person reading a book, listening to music or watching performance, nevertheless, there is an action involved.

  6. 2. Recreation has no single form - There is so much flexibility on the part of the person on his choices from the wide range of activities. The only guiding factor of the individual is the motivational desire in his choices and the enjoyment he gets.

  7. 3. Recreation is determined by motivation - The individual determines his activity largely by a desire, motive or incentive. His ultimate goal still remains as enjoyment and satisfaction.

  8. 4. Recreation occurs in un-obligated Time - A recreationist should be aware of defining clearly to what particular time he or she partakes the leisure activity. Any act of work falls under obligated time. Therefore, any enjoyment from work may not be considered recreation.

  9. 5. Recreation is Participated Voluntarily - There can be no imposition of by force taken in recreational activity. Recreation is provided to open the road for an individual for self-discovery, self-expression, creativity, and self-satisfaction.

  10. 6. Recreation is Universally Sought & Practiced - Activities for recreation is extensive that they encompass the total human being regardless of sex, race, and nationality. 7. Recreation is Purposeful -Anyone involved in recreational activity has a purpose in securing satisfaction and pleasure.

  11. 8. Recreation is Flexible - Recreational activities can be organized or unorganized. Systematic recreation are found among recreational institutions or leisure education while unorganized activities may be done through self or of no specific program.

  12. 9. Recreation has By-products - The best motivation for an individual to do recreation activities is “Reward” after an activity either physical health, emotional stability, or social fitness.

  13. Values of Recreation • Recreation offers an opportunity for the development of initial lessons in good sportsmanship. • Recreation offers an opportunity for relaxation to counter balance fatigue

  14. Recreation offers an opportunity for the development of leadership qualities through the organization of various individual and group activities where participants act as an assistant leader and as actual leader.

  15. Recreation helps reduce academic and scholastic inferiority complex. • Recreation promotes friendship and comradeship for subsequent maturing years. • Recreation helps the youth to solve their discipline problem.

  16. Recreation helps the learning process by promoting and giving an opportunity to play in an environment that is essential with enjoyment and happening.
