  1. Writing to Describe LO: to use other stimuli to write descriptively.

  2. List everything you can see on the beach. Describe one item in detail. Write one simile about the beach. Write one metaphor.

  3. Now, imagine you are in the picture: What can you see? What can you smell? What can you taste? What can you feel? What can you hear? Write a sentence for each.

  4. Similes.Finish these off.. • The moody sky was as grey as... • The rough rocks were as bumpy as... • The soggy sand felt like.. • The lumps in the sand felt like... • The lazy rain splattered like... • The excited dog scampered like... • The messy seaweed was as... as... • The boat lent like...

  5. MetaphorsFinish these off • The moody sky was a lake of terror. • The soggy sand was a dampened sponge cake. • The rough rocks were... • The lumps in the sand were... • The messy seaweed was... • The lazy rain was... • The excited dog was... • The boat was a...

  6. Now, using your own experiences, write a descriptive piece about a beach holiday you have had that you didn’t really enjoy. Use at least 3 metaphors and 3 similes.
