  2. 1. “Wrestling” brought on through prayer. • a)   Esau wanted to kill him! • 2. The Lord changes Jacobs name. • a)   Jacob wasn’t fighting any longer. • b)   He became the “Prince of God.”

  3. (1) We can enjoy His great strength! (a) The “trickster” gives way to the “Prince of God”. (b) When our plans are exhausted, He is strongest!

  4. B. Jacob was sending presents for his brother. 1. He meets Esau face- to-face!II. Genesis 33:1-3 A. Jacob’s changed.

  5. 1. He prepares to meet his brother. a)   His maids and their children to meet Esau first. (1) The “dysfunction” of this multiple marriage family! 2. Jacob goes out ahead of them.

  6. a)   James 4:6 b)    “Seven times” = Jacob did it repeatedly. III. Genesis 33:4-7 A. Esau kisses him and the tears flow! 1. Wants to be introduced.

  9. 1. Jacob declines offer. VI. Genesis 33:13-16 A. Esau has learned a great deal! 1. He is loving and kind! 2. Wants nothing in return.

  10. 3. He keeps giving. a)   Offered protection. VII. Genesis 33:17-20 A. Jacob moves to Succoth. 1. Peniel to Succoth to Shechem. a)  Changing territories.

  11. (1) Canaanites an ungodly people. B. Esau moves south. VIII. Conclusion A. Raising a family in Canaan is trouble.

  12. 1. Canaan = the world. a)   Our children are always being tempted. (1) Put on the full armor of God. B. The Lord did a miracle in both Esau and Jacob’s lives!

  13. 1. Esau’s reaction an example of God’s love. a)   Do you have someone you need to forgive? (1) 1 Peter 5:6 (2) Forgive and leave the “balancing” up to the Lord!
