  1. February 1, 2013 Dear Principal or Youth Coordinator: In an effort to generate greater interest in computers among African American youth, Blacks In Government (BIG) is sponsoring its annual National Science Technology Engineering and Math Student Computer Competition (STEM) on Wednesday, May 29, 2010, 6:30 PM, in NOSC Conference Room at The Pentagon. As you know, computer skills are essential to success in tomorrow's workplace. We are conducting a computer competition for youth in grades nine (9) through twelve (12). The competition theme is," Cloud Computing – Advantages and Disadvantages of Using That Elusive Server in the Sky.” With the help of a variety of corporations and organizations, we are promoting learning experiences and activities that will result in a greater interest, awareness, and understanding of computers among African American youth. Our more than 200 chapters in 11 regions will be working with local colleges and universities to promote computer access for young people. Students will compete locally, regionally, and nationally to build the most creative and effective website on the Internet. Called the “National Science Technology Engineering and Math Student Competition (STEM)", the contest provides youth the chance to develop computer skills and demonstrate their expertise and creativity on the information superhighway. It is the perfect arena for them to show what they can do. Enclosed are the competition guidelines, flyer and application form. Please provide interested students and parents with the contest information. We want to reach as many youth as possible. Blacks In Government is a national response to the need for African Americans to organize around issues of mutual concern and to use our collective strength to address workplace and community issues. BIG also is a national organization of African American government workers committed to excellence in government through equality of opportunity. Applications must be received no later than May 22, 2013. For more information, call Ms. Farnese Hicks of Blacks In Government BIG Pentagon Chapter at (301) 577-3078 or Mr. William Coates at (703) 614-5654. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
