  1. AMP Vs Mobile Friendly Pages

  2. What are AMP Pages? What are Mobile-Friendly Pages? • AMP or Accelerated Mobile Pages is an open source initiative by Google • AMP are lightweight pages designed to load quickly on mobile devices • AMP-compliant pages use a subset of HTML with a few extensions • AMP is a very accessible framework for creating fast-loading mobile web pages. Mobile-friendly pages are pages with Responsive Web Design (RWD). RWD is a web design approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience across a wide range of devices -from desktop computer monitors, tablets to mobile phones.

  3. AMP framework The AMP framework consists of three components: • AMP HTML, which is standard HTML markup with web components. • AMP JavaScript, which manages resource loading. • AMP caches, which serve and validate AMP pages.

  4. Is Mobile-Friendliness a Ranking Signal? Is AMP a Ranking Signal? • Yes. Since April 21st, 2015, Google started expanding its use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. Mobile-friendliness will continue to remain a ranking factor as AMP also have to be made responsive. • No, AMP is still not a ranking signal as mentioned by John Mueller, a Google Webmaster Trends Analysts.

  5. What About Page Size and Page Load Time? How can I Validate AMP-complaint pages? • AMP reduces the page size to a great extent. • The number of requests sent to retrieve the page is also less. • AMP improves CTR and also shows an increase in the number of repeat visits. • You can validate AMP on https://validator.ampproject.org/

  6. Performance Summary Of a Responsive Page Performance Summary Of the AMP version of the same URL

  7. Does Google Give Reports Regarding AMP and Mobile-friendliness in Search Console and Analytics? • Yes, Google gives a Mobile Usability Report in the search console under Search Traffic. • The AMP related issues are shared in the Search Console under Search Appearance. • Google Analytics can also be added to AMP.

  8. Pros and Cons to AMP The most obvious pros are: • Speed • Better rankings (if Google gives AMP pages priority) • Less drain on your servers if you get a lot of mobile traffic. The most obvious cons are: • No ad revenue, because ads would be stripped • No analytics, because your server would not be tapped • Content variation between desktop and mobile.

  9. Latest News - Google now builds its own AMP stories for search Google is now using artificial intelligence to “intelligently construct” AMP stories for search. These new AMP stories appear in knowledge panels in search results for actors, athletes, musicians and other famous people.
