Vocabulary words • Motet-a polyphonic choral piece of music on a sacred text usually without instruments. • Madrigal- a polyphonic unaccompanied vocal piece on a secular words. • Renaissance-it means a time of re-birth or renewal. • Harpsichord-the early form of the piano. The strings were plucked instead of hammered.

  3. William Byrd • He was an English composer born in London in 1542 or 1543. • William Byrd was famous for composing madrigals. • He married in 1568 to Julian Byrd.

  4. He became an organist at Lincoln cathedral in 1563. • In 1607 he published a collection of gradualia for the whole ecclesiasticalyear.

  5. William Byrd got married Julian in 1568,and had seven children.
