  1. THE IMPACT OF LOCKDOWN ON THE EXPORT BUSINESS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IN INDIA The export business of fruits and vegetables in India has hit really bad due to the worldwide lockdown because of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a study, the estimated fall would be by 30-40%. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the first session of nationwide lockdown on March 24th, following a Janta curfew on Sunday. Due to the nationwide lockdown, the value of the fruits and vegetables in India has come to a halt. It’s been two months since the lockdown has started and the export market of fruits and vegetables in India has already seen a decline of 30-40%. Another major reason for the decline of the export market of fruit and vegetables is also the sealing of the borders by many countries for reducing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the import-export Indian data, not only the fruits and vegetables, but the international border sealing by maximum countries has also affected the whole import-export business of the nation. The summer

  2. season has come and so has the season of grapes and mangoes. And India is the largest producer and exporter of mangoes in the world. But, of course the export of mango and grape is also likely to witness the downfall due to the implementation of the worldwide lockdown. However, after the second session of the nationwide lockdown, the government has provided some relaxations on the rules of the lockdown. But despite so many relaxations including bringing back the mandi, delivering and providing the essential items and allowing some ease to the suppliers and Indian importers, the situation and current scenarios of export of fruit and vegetables is not going to be anywhere near normal.

  3. According to the Indian exporters and Indian importers, by the time everything gets normal, the lockdown would open and the market would open, the season of the most popular and exported fruits and vegetables in India would be gone. The export season of mango and grape would also be over. Not only the international border but the state border of the country has also sealed by the government. Due to this, the operation of trucks and other transportation to the mandi has seen the standstill all over the country. Even after providing the relaxation on the rules, the state borders are still sealed. The local importers and suppliers of the country also have to deal with the situation of cancellation of orders. And in spite of fighting with the lockdown, the government has to protect them as well. The restrictions of the trading business and due to the worldwide lockdown, there are many cases of cancellation of orders that have happened across the globe. And as per the import-export Indian data says, the Indian importers and Indian exporters will have to face one of the worst scenarios of non-payment as soon as the trading market gets to the normal. According to the latest import-export India data, the export business of fruit and vegetables in India has seen a major decline with about 16% of the loss. If we talk about the value of the exports of fruits and vegetables, then between, April 2018 to January 2019 it was about $1.19 billion. However, this year the value has declined to $1 billion only.
