  2. New Directions Alternative Center:Overview – May 2014 • NDAC moved to Smithfield High School at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year. • The staff consists of 1 coordinator and 5 licensed teachers. • The program utilizes the Career and Technical Education wing as its school setting.

  3. New Directions Alternative Center:Curriculum • NDAC utilizes two programs of studies as its academic medium. • WHRO “Desire to Learn” (D2L) - An electronic standards-based learning management software program that allows access to core curriculum subjects. • NovaNet – Online courseware that contains the entire core high school and middle school curricula.

  4. New Directions Alternative Center: Student Data • Number of students assigned since September 2013: 50 • Current enrollment as of April 2014: 30 • Program completers as of March 2014: 20 • Students currently on Time for graduation: 27

New Directions Alternative Center: Student Data • Three (3) students were placed in the GED program, where all completed the requirements. • Two (2) students were withdrawn from IWCS and now attend the Commonwealth Challenge Program. • One (1) student was withdrawn by the parents and entered the Job Corps program.

  6. New Directions Alternative Center: Student Data • One (1) student was withdrawn by the parents and moved to Ohio • Two (2) students assigned to NDAC never enrolled

New Directions Alternative Center: Future Considerations • Offer incentives for students to reduce their assigned time at NDAC! • Expand student services through NDAC, such as, to offer GED as part of our program. • Consider the possibility that the program may be more conducive to working high school seniors, offering them a more flexible schedule for classes • Offer an option for an intensive study for juniors and seniors at risk of not graduating on time • Offer “Credit Recovery” for students with excessive absences
