Dr. Sheng Sun (The University of Hong Kong) Abstract: Electric field integral equation (EFIE) has been extensively used in analyzing the electromagnetic (EM) radiation and scattering problems for a perfect electric conductor object. However, the numerical solution of the EFIE at low frequencies suffers from the breakdown and inaccuracy problems. The low-frequency breakdown problem happens when the Rao-Wilton-Glisson (RWG) basis function is employed in EFIE. Physically, it is because of the decoupling between the electric field and magnetic field. In the integral representation of the EFIE, the electric field is decomposed into the vector potential part and the scalar potential part. At low frequencies, the vector potential part is much smaller than the scalar potential part. Hence, the contribution of the vector potential part will be lost during the numerical process. On the other hand, the loss of the contribution from the vector potential leads to an inaccurate solution. In order to overcome these problems, the loop-star/-tree basis function was proposed to separate the contributions from the vector potential and the scalar potential in the EFIE formulation. However, it requires loop search, which is especially difficult for a complex structure with many entangled long loops. In recent years, many methods have been introduced to reduce the condition number and improve the convergence of EFIE at low frequencies, such as the augmented EFIE (A-EFIE) and the Calderón multiplicative preconditioner (CMP). In this talk, the recent progress in this research area will be reviewed. About the Speaker: Sheng Sun received the B.Eng. degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China, in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he was with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, NTU, Singapore. From 2008 to 2010, he was a Humboldt Research Fellow with the Institute of Microwave Techniques, University of Ulm, Germany. Since September 2010, he has been a Research Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), Hong Kong. His current research interests include electromagnetic theory and computational methods, numerical modeling and de-embedding techniques, electromagnetic wave propagation and scattering, microwave and millimeter-wave radar system, as well as the study of multilayer planar circuits, microwave filters and antennas. 主办单位:中科大研究生院 协办单位:信息学院电子科学与技术系 欢迎所有感兴趣师生参加!
