  3. Clinical Hours guidelines • 3rd wk of ISU classes: T or W depending on semester and year; 1:15-3:00 Stroud Auditorium University High School (2 hours) • Attend school events at UHS (Open House, concerts, athletics, department meetings) or Professional education meetings/conferences (5 hours total) • Observations outside content area and within content area for TOR Paper (5 hours+5 hours)

  4. Clinical Hours guidelines • Meetings and/or communication with mentor/ CT and Preparation time for teaching at UHS (15 hours ) • Observations or teacher assisting 3-5 days within assigned class prior to teaching (3-5 hours) • Instructional Support opportunities: grading/copying/tutoring/team teaching/projects/ technology/teacher assisting (5 hours) • Teaching time: at least 3 lessons consecutively • (3hours)

  5. Clinical Hours guidelines • These hours include a minimum requirement for your clinical experience at University High School. You are encouraged to do more to provide an enriched experience. Thirty-three (33) hours of the clinical experience will take place during the given lab time while twelve (12) hours will take place outside of lab time and include meetings with the CT and instructional support activities.

  6. What this experience is: • This is pre-student teaching; this is not student teaching. • Get involved in the class where you will be teaching and get to know the students. Ask for grading, offer your assistance, ask to help during independent work

  7. Teaching expectations • Turn in your lesson plans for approval and discussion with your CT one week in advance • Three consecutive days (can’t do Monday, Wednesday, Friday)

  8. The value of U-High • Classroom management issues may be different than some schools in the state, but for first time teaching experience, teacher candidates should focus on instruction and implementation of their lessons and they should not have to worry about handling more difficult management issues • U-High provides clinical experiences to 1000 Illinois State University students per semester • U-High faculty load includes work with teacher candidates and is not considered “extra work” as it would be at other high schools

  9. U-High’s schedule • Schedule A, B, C, D http://www.uhigh.ilstu.edu/ • http://www.uhigh.ilstu.edu/daily/calindex.html and see second information bar from the left, or click on month • Freshman schedule - http://www.uhigh.ilstu.edu/first/welcome.html

  10. Microteaching with your peers • Yes, you may practice a lesson that you will or could teach at U-High, but it is not required. It is simply an option.

  11. Questions, problems, concerns? • Speak with your Cooperating Teacher (CT), your C&I instructor, or email me (bbmeyer@ilstu.edu)
