Latin Partnership Program A partnership between Heritage High School and Arapahoe Community College Creates global leaders through rigorous education Taught at Heritage High School during the regular high school day Students earn both high school and college credit 1 year of HS Credit for each semester 3 to 5 college credits per semester (varies by class)

Latin Partnership Program Gives students a competitive advantage in the college admissions process College level experience prepares students for college rigor and culture Continued participation in the Latin Club and the Junior Classical League Allows students to explore other language before or after their Latin experience

    7. Scope and Sequence Why take Latin? Foundational language for many modern languages including English Highly used in medicine, law, science Increases understanding across multiple subject areas Increases problem solving, critical thinking and communications skills Latin students perform exceptionally well on standardized tests Latin I, II, III, and IV Functional proficiency Listening, speaking, reading, writing

    8. Why Latin? Between 1997 and 2007, Latin students outscored other students by an average of 176 points on the verbal portion of the SAT Studies conducted by the Educational Testing Service show that Latin students consistently outperform all other students on the verbal portion of the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). 1999-2005 Taken from Table 6 in College-Bound Seniors — A Profile of SAT Program Test Takers. 2007 data taken from 2007 College-Bound Seniors-Total Group Profile Report.

    9. Scope and Sequence Course Outline Latin I and II Deals with the development of functional proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing Latin. Covers the basics of grammar and develop a repertoire of essential Latin vocabulary Studies the Roman contribution to western culture and civilization

Scope and Sequence Latin III and IV These courses provide the students with an opportunity: to examine, compare and contrast language systems and understand the culture and values of the classical world. to acquire more advanced knowledge of Latin grammar and vocabulary to acquire practice in more advanced reading and writing skills To acquire practice in more sophisticated translation including selections from Latin poetry in their original form Note: Students taking Latin II – IV will need to take a placement exam

    14. Who can participate? Students who are: Ready for college-level work Place into the appropriate level of Latin No placement for Latin I Show academic skills on the ACCUPLACER, ACT, or SAT Approved by their high school counselor

    15. Why College Latin? Easy access - classes right at Heritage High School! Dual credit on your transcript when you pass No post testing required Aids a seamless transfer to a college career

    17. How do I get started? Register with your counselor Fill out a Statewide Agreement Form Complete an ACC Enrollment Process Apply online to ACC Print the confirmation page Apply online for COF Print the confirmation page Take the Latin Placement exam (if needed) Purchase your textbook

    18. College Opportunity Fund (COF) All students are required to sign up for and authorize the use of COF Available to all Colorado residents Pays more than half of the tuition! Pays for145 credits of in-state tuition College Ready courses will not be used towards your COF balance Apply at https://cof.college-assist.org

    20. How much does this cost? All tuition amounts are decided in July $81 per credit hour (08/09 tuition rate) Latin I & II, 5 credits - $405 Latin III & IV, 3 credits - $243 These amounts will likely increase! Some fees may apply – registration, instructional, etc. Books You will need to purchase the regular text for the course – See www.arapahoe.bkstr.com.

When the course is finished Students earn college credit if they receive a C or better Grades of D or F are recorded College Credit Withdrawal Students withdraw when they notify ACC You may withdraw from a class any time during the first 80%. If you withdraw, you will get a ‘W’ on your ACC transcript All normal High School policies apply
