  9. Securing Additional, Better Space • Leased 136 Elkton Rd property, 7 classrooms, offices for all faculty • Long term need: new, additional ELI building with as much space as current main building • Achieve long term goal by amassing $1 million+ surplus—will meet

  10. Goal to Earn 10 Year CEA Reaccreditation • Goal Achieved! • Thanks to hard working subcommittee members and chairs, Kathy Hankins, Laurie Fuhrmann, Kathy Schneider!! • Thanks to Walt for assistance on response to site visit

Major Goals Achieved by Committees • Testing: adopted 3 new progressive reading tests; developed proficiency scale; created writing rubric • Technology: comscans, laptops, projectors, digital recorders, TV/DVDs • Newsletter: another Pulitzer nomination • Library: a dozen new book purchases • Scholarship: 30 awards, 10 countries; fairer, more thorough review process

Committee Goals, Continued • Orientation: planned 43 activities(!), expanded culture café, developed trip procedures, improved student intake processing • Textbook: new guidelines for textbook review and adoption • Curriculum: completion of EAP revision, revised syllabi to consistently use learning outcomes language

Committee Goals, Continued • Promotion and Peer Review Committee: wrote guidelines for periodic peer reviews • Advisory: created policy review timetable, acted on faculty concerns about facilities, recommended response on plagiarism • Student Conduct/Attendance: acted on retention/attendance decisions, new procedures for coming year

  14. Other Achievements • Thorough assessment of student achievement: 1. Average 23%+ in Mich. Aural 2. On 1-6 scale, .88+ in oral 3. On 1-6 scale, .88+ in writing 4. 93% students promoted 5. 87% students graduated

  17. Goal to complete Peer and Promotion Reviews • Goal Achieved, thanks to Russ Mason, Kathy Vodvarka, Leslie Criston, and Barbara Morris Congratulations to Assistant Professor Grant Wolf! • ELI has 5 faculty at Asst. Prof. rank ELI leads the profession.

  18. Christina ESL Program Highlights • Janice Lefebvre, Jo Gielow, Lisa Grimsley—our 18th year! • Building bridges to parents, administrators, mainstream faculty, • Achieving measurable progress in ELL development • Providing an ideal mentoring environment for student teachers
