  2. Who invented the Guillotine? • The Guillotine was invented by a French physician. • Named Joseph- IgnanceGuillotin • Born in Saintes in 1738 • was elected to the national assembly • Instrumental in passing the law that required all death sentences to be carried out by means of a machine

  3. Relevance to the French Revolution? • Member of the national assembly • Sought both humane and equal deaths

  4. What forms of torture did the Guillotine replace? • Death by the Gibbet. Gibbeting was a form of death where you jumped to your own death. • Quartering, cutting up the human body into quarters • Hangings • Burning at the stake
