  2. Please do not talk at this time. August 18 HW: Bring all Your materials, especially your Notebook on Friday • As you come in, please find the desk with the same number as the one on your card. • When you arrive at your desk write down the materials you will need for this class (on the Whiteboard). • Make sure you also sign in on the correct desk number on the Seating Chart. • Finally, Complete the Personal Definition paper on your desk.

  3. Materials for this class… • A Spiral Notebook or Binder • Lined Paper • A folder or pocket to keep papers • Something to write with (pencils, pens) • Glue • Scissors • Colored Pencils or pens • Memory Stick (useful but not required) Have these Materials for Check off by Friday!

  5. Quick! • Name three things about me from my Personal Definition!

  6. Share Out… • Now that you have a personal definition, pair up with someone in a seat near you and tell them about yourself. • Make sure you start with your name! • When you are listening to your partner, jot down their name and 2 or 3 things about them. • Share out with the room….

  7. Clock Partner Sign Ups • Get a clock paper from the front of the room and get 12 people to sign it. These people will be partners with you for different activities during class.

August 20/21 HW: Bring all Your materials, especially your Notebook on Friday E-mail personal letter due Friday • As you come in, please find your desk from yesterday. • When you arrive at your desk please begin the vocabulary pre test. Do the best you can on this test. We are gathering data about what you already know. The better you do, the less we will have to cover this year. Test and scantron are on the front table

  16. If you finish early, take out a piece of paper and write an ANONYMOUS question or questions for me. What do you want to know?Do not put your name on this paper.

  17. What Animal are you? • If you had to pick an animal to represent you, what would it be? (if you have done this already, get it out, or get it from the class box by the door) • Put these up on the board- Have an animal? Use white board markers to put it on the whiteboard. • Now put these animals in Categories. • Based on the list we have generated, what categories would serve us best? • When else is it helpful to put things in Categories? • Why should we practice this skill? • What have we learned with this activity?

  18. Learning Styles Quiz • Take these two quizzes to see what kind of learning style you have. • Please record your answers on a separate piece of paper. These are a class set. • Find out what your score is. Do you have the most answers in A- Visual? B- Auditory or C- Kinesthetic. • Put your name on the small white card and put your card on the wall near the learning style that matches you!

  19. Learning Styles Quiz- Scoring • Quiz 1- Add up the number of V’s, A’s and K’s you have according to your answers. The category with the highest number is your learning style! • Quiz 2- Add up the number of A’s, B’s and C’s you have according to your answers. The category with the highest number is your learning style!

  20. Now share what you have learned about yourself… • Get a small card • Write your name on it • Use the stapler to tack it to the back wall near your period and learning style. • This way you can find out who learns the same way you do and who can help you with things you don’t do well!

Pay close attention to the sections labeled: Daily Assignments, Late Work/Make Up Work and Help. • In pairs, looking at the three sections named above, underline those parts of the CIS that will help you be the most successful in this class. In other words….What do you need to know from those sections to be successful in this class? • Sign your CIS when you are done. • Share Out

  24. Homework Policy • Homework is given to prepare you for the next day’s lesson and to review what we have learned in class. • You will use your homework on pop quizzes at the start of class or on in class activities. • You will use homework to prepare for unit tests and writing assignments.

  25. How Homework is Graded… • Checked Off: Complete or Missing/Incomplete • Collected from a random selection of students to grade carefully with comments (repeat until all students have had a chance to submit work) • Collected from everyone on due date • Collected with daily notes at the end of a unit in a unit packet
