  1. The Good News of Jesus GOOD NEWS CULTURE A “DISCIPLE-MAKING CULTURE”

  2. Mark 3:13 • "Jesus went up on a mountainside. He called people to come to him, and they came.” • vs. 14: “He appointed 12 of them and called them apostles ... to be with him. He would also send them out to preach”.

  3. Jesus called people to him ... • We call people to come to Jesus. • Jesus knew that ... • The people of his day were walking in darkness ... so he told them he was the light of the world ... • and he gave sight to the blind to show that he had power over what made their hearts blind;

  4. Jesus called people to him • People were hungry for reality • so he fed massive crowds on 2 occasions to demonstrate that he was the bread of life ... • that they must come to him and be filled. • In fact, he said, Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever go hungry.”(John 6:35)

  5. Jesus called people to him ... • People were thirsty for truth ... • so, in Jerusalem, on the 8th day of the great feast celebrating God’s provision in the desert, he stood up and told the crowds that he was the water of life. • Jesus, in fact, said, no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty. (John 6:35)

  6. Jesus called people to him ... • People were lost and didn’t know the way back to God ... • so he told them he was the way ... • the only way

  7. Jesus called people to him ... • People lived in fear of death ... • so he raised a man who had been dead 4 days and told the people • hewas “the resurrection and the life”

  8. Psalm 96:3 • "Tell the nations about his glory. Tell all people about the wonderful things he has done".

  9. Jesus calls everyone. • God doesn’t want a single person to be lost. • When you respond and come to him, • he sends you out to tell others about this. • He sends out all those who come to him!

  10. How do you “know” you’ve been called? Those Jesus calls ... he sends “He appointed twelve—designating them apostles—that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons”.(Mark 3:14)

  11. Mark 3 vs. 14 says that • 12 men responded • and came to him • so he called them "apostles" • (sent ones)

  12. The first call is • when he calls you to him • You come to know him ... • you learn from him, • and keep learning from him ... • and you stay close

  13. The 2nd part of the call is • he sends you out to work in his harvest field. • Luke 10:2 “The harvest is huge, but the workers are few. • “So ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field".

  14. Mark 3:13-14 Jesus called 12 to him, to be with him ... and that he might send them out ... ... to preach and to use his authority. His authority is essential for every part of being “sent”
