  1. R-NCMPs software applied to Canada and Caribbean region By Lucie Vincent Third Meeting of ET-NCMP Marrakesh, Morocco 5-7 March 2018

  2. Data - Canada Data • 114 stations selected with good daily tmax, tmin and prec over 1950-2015 (very few missing data) • 1 station with problems (ex. prec < 0, tmin > tmax, etc.) Results • Erroneous values identified correctly • Many values above/below 5 SD identified Recommendations • User defined upper/lower limits for tmax & tmin

  3. Indices Criteria for missing values acceptable? • Monthly values calculated if # miss ≤ 10 days • Annual values calculated if # miss ≤ 36 days • Climatology calculated if at last 9 valid years • Reference for WMO 2009? • NCMP6: records calculated from first 30 years?

  4. Variogram - Canada Annual TX90p Annual TMA Annual PrAn Annual SPI Do we need the two green lines? Variogram looks good with 10 years (graphs not clear)

  5. Map of trends - Canada Maps of trends are useful Additional maps of anomalies for the requested year?

  6. Data – Caribbean region Data • 22 stations selected with good daily tmax, tmin and prec over 1972-2011 (very few missing data) • 1 station with temp data only • 1 station with prec data only Results • P2_Indices stops when calculate indices for station with temp only; does not calculate indices for remaining stations (error in if c<0.05 && abs (c-c0) <=1e-04) • Remove station from A2_Indices/P2_Station_List.txt Recommendations • Skip station and continue?

  7. Variogram – Caribbean region Annual TMA Annual TX90p Annual PrAn Annual Rxday1 Points are far from the curve Maybe 22 stations are not enough to cover the area

  8. Map of trends – Caribbean region Only 2 stations with enough data by country

  9. Finalize the product P7_Summary A file named “CountryName_NCMP_Summary.csv” should be created. The user would have to enter the name of the country or region (ex. Canada) and the year for producing the summary (ex. 2015). The columns would include: • Country • Year • Month (or annual value) • Country average of TMA, rank, number of station contributing • Country average of PrAn, rank, number of station contributing • Country average of SPI, rank, number of station contributing • Country average of TX90p, rank, number of station contributing • Country average of TN10p, rank, number of station contributing • Base period start (ex. 1981), and base period end (ex. 2010). The output would be for 13 rows (12 months and annual) and 20 columns.
