Functions: • -Nutrition • -Regulation of osmotic pressure • -Bind and transport of bilirubin, steroids, fatty acids & Ca • Pathological abnormalities:( Clinical Sig.) • Variation in albumin levels may be caused by : • -Malnutrition • -liver disease (Cirrhosis) • _Gastrointestinal loss (inflammation, disease of the intestinal mucosa) • -Renal disease • -Skin lesions (ex. Dermatitis, burns, dehydration)

  3. Samples: • Serum. • Principle: • Albumin in the presence of bromcresol green at a slightly acid pH produces a color change of the indicator from yellow-green to green-blue. The intensity of the color formed is proportional to the albumin concentration in the sample.

  4. Procedure: • Assay conditions: • Wavelength…………………………….. 630 nm • Cuvette……………………………………. 1 cm light path • Temperature……………………………. 15-25 ºc • Adjust the instrument to zero with D.W • Pipette into cuvette: see the paper.

  5. Calculations: • (A)sample\(A) stad x 5(std conc)= g\dL albumin in the sample • Reference values: • 3.8 to 5.0 g\dL
