  1. Specification Work PVC VS FRP

  2. What is FRP • Composite Pipe made up of: • Silca • Fiberglass- Chopped or Chopped and Long Strand • Resin-Polyester or Vinylester • UV Inhibitors

  3. Manufacturing Process’s • Centrifically Cast – Hobas – Like DIP • Chopped Glass only. Little to no tensile strength. Primarily Gravity. • Continuously Advancing Mandrel – Flowtite – similar to extrusion • Chopped and Long Stand Glass. Much better tensile strength. Gravity and Pressure. • Recipically Wound – Ameron • Long Strand Glass only. Very expensive. Gravity and Pressure. Mostly Industrial applications.

  4. Continuously Advancing Mandrel

  5. Reciprocally Wound

  6. Center Register Pipe Build-up Gasket Key Element Pipe Joints • Pipe is supplied with a coupling assembled on one end. • Flowtite is available with Std Push Joints and Restrained Joints

  7. Problems with FRP • FRP 24” thru 48” is CI OD. Has its own OD in Larger Sizes • Cannot use “Megalugs” or any other type of external restraints. • Std Pipe stiffness’s PN 46 and PN 72. Hobas is having a rash of over deflection issues in several states. • People are unsure on how to repair breaks. • Cannot compete in any size with Corr or Pro 21 products • Is not competitive with F679 PVC PS 46 or PS 115 thru 48” • Does not get competitive with C905 til 30” diameter in DR25

  8. Selling Points Against FRP • Availability • PVC is now available in traditional FRP sizes 42” – 60”. • No External restraining systems and NO restrained pipe above 48” • Fittings have to be fabricated so delivery is longer than DI Fittings. • Up sell the pipe stiffness. FRP can be made to SN 115 and it is expensive for them to convert. • Repairing FRP is confusing to End Users so capitalize on it. • Hobas and Flowtite would rather fight each other than other products so let them. • Since there is a coupling there are twice the joints vs. Intergal Bell Pipe. • Do not Down sell Hobas, they have strong relationships. • People are not comfortable with FRP for pressure YET. This is there focus for the future.
