  2. Not All Websites are Created Equal While completing your research project, you will need to find multiple sources on the internet. You will find several sources that are useful and some that are not so useful. Use the following forms to evaluate some of the websites you find before you use the information found in them. Please fill out the form for at least 3 sites that you viewed. Look at the notes section for directions and clarifications. When you are finished, do a “Save As” with your name and website evaluation as the title. Example: Smith Website Evaluation

The link shows their sponsors Site’s Purpose:To give U.S. citizens information about diseases of the eye Two Positives: • Created by experts • The FAQ format was easy to use Two Negatives: • Needs links to some related topics • Graphics needed for when they talk about eye anatomy or map of histo belt Recommendation: Yes, it was created by a reputable source in an easy to use format that answered most of my questions.

Ocular Histoplasmosis Syndrome http://www.stlukeseye.com/Conditions/Histoplasmosis.asp Site creator:St. Luke’s Cataract & Laser Institute Credentials:A hospital with several branches that specializes in eyes Site’s Purpose:States it’s to give information, but has link to make an appointment, so some advertising Two Positives: • Easy to follow links to great supplemental info • Great graphics Two Negatives: • No last updated date • There was no explanation why some links were considered related Recommendation: Yes, great graphics made it easy to understand what they were talking about

For information, to sell something, to influence Two Positives: • Nice annotated bibliography of helpful sites • Nice to see a patient’s perspective Two Negatives: • Ugly, but said to be purposely set-up for those with low vision • Last updated May 2007, but newest research is 1998 Recommendation: No, I may use some of the links listed. The patient perspective is nice, but much of it was used to praise his doctors.
