  2. AEC Plant Solutions Breakout Session Thursday, December 3, 2009, 10:00am-11:30am South Pacific F Join us in a panel discussion that explores the challenges of getting buy-in for Autodesk solutions within your organization.

  3. AutoCAD Plant 3D Suites Focus Group: Thursday, December 3rd 8am-10am Granite A AutoCAD Plant 3D Futures Focus Group: Thursday, December 3rd 12pm-2pm Granite A

  4. Agenda • Quick review of AutoCAD Plant 3D • Project Kickoff Checklist • Q&A

  5. AutoCAD Plant 3D overview • Plant Design in AutoCAD • Come to the booth for a demo • Piping design and modeling • Equipment modeling • Structural modeling for pipers • Automatic Isometric creation • Orthographic drawing creation (Plans/Sections/GAs) • Material list export • P&ID drawings

  6. Project Kickoff Checklist • P&ID Checklist • Line number and tag formats • Report formats • Symbol Library customization • Additional fields • Selection lists (spec names, services, etc) • Project breakdown (models by area) • Defining Equipment tag, valve tag and Line number formats. • Set up Pipe Specs • Adding fields to specs and the model • Setting up layer and colors • Annotation formats for orthos • Data Manager views • P&ID to Plant 3D object mapping • Isogen title blocks • Isogen BOM formatting

  7. Project File Structure Project Root (Master model) Area 1 Area 2 Area 3 Area n… Equip Piping 1 Piping 2 Civil/Struct Electrical

  8. Equipment, Valve Tag and Line number formats • Demo tag setup

  9. Set up Pipe Specs • Number one issue for projects • Best to define specs before starting modeling • Functionality in Plant 3D to handle spec changes after the model has been started. • Demo • Exit AutoCAD • Create a new spec (pipe, fittings, and valves) • Modify CS150. Change description for Elbows • Open the model and show the change notification • Route something using the new spec

  10. Adding fields to specs and model • Example – contract number on each component • Add Contract Number to pipe spec • Add Contract Number to Project Schema • Property must have the same name in both Spec and Project (case sensitive) • No spaces or special characters in property names • Demo • Place piping component • Show field in Property Palette • Show field in Data Manager

  11. Layers and Colors • Default • Layer by Line Number • Color by size

  12. Annotation formats for orthos • Example – Line number tag with Contract number

  13. Data Manager Views • Powerful tool to organize data • Group by Spec • Group by Line Number • Group by Shop/Field • Group by Status (New/Existing) • Group by Spec, then by size, then by component type • Reorder/reformat Data Manager display • Export reordered data to Excel

  14. P&ID to Plant 3D object mapping • Only needed if you are using AutoCAD P&ID • Philosophy – soft link using tag. Validate to confirm correctness. • Used to seed property data from P&ID • Used for validation • Default values already set up. Only change if: • You don’t like the default mapping • You have added new components in P&ID or Plant 3D • You have added new fields to existing components.

  15. Isogen title blocks • Final.POS • Final.ATR • Also • Final.MLD (Material List Def) • Final.POS (POSition text) • Final.DDF • Same underlying Isogen as other products • Basic tools in Project Setup • Can’t change all possible settings using Project Setup – must dig into the setup files

  16. Isogen title blocks - LDT • LDT = Line Designation Table (aka. Line List) • Create a spreadsheet of line numbers and attributes • Column names – no spaces • Sheet name – Case Sensitive • Line Number Column – Case Sensitive, no spaces. Put the name of the column (LineNo), not Excel column index (A).

  17. Isogen BOM formatting • Select Standard (Type 1) or Custom • If Custom, you can change fields, order, sorting, etc • Add Contract Number to BOM • Final.MLD • Final.ATR
