  3. Resources Ongoing projects Working with his group of Special Subject students to locate Slave Trade materials in Special Collections at GUL. These will be digitized and available online, and a lot relate to Scotland. Created with teachers in mind. Also accumulating material for the John Newton lesson plan (the slave trader who eventually wrote Amazing Grace), as well as materials on the plantation (and slaves) owned by the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and then some of the runaway slaves in Scotland. Resources • Slavery, Frederick Douglass and Slave narratives • An introduction to slavery for junior learners with accompanying materials for teachers, and classroom exercises and assignments • A unit on slave narratives for senior learners, with materials for teachers, sources, for learners, and classroom exercises and assignments • Selected quotations from Frederick Douglass’s autobiography • An explanatory guide for teachers • A brief narrative of Douglass’s life, longer extracts from his autobiography, and analytical questions for students Annmarie Ford

Resources • The Transatlantic Slave Trade • Employing the freely available Voyages online database, these materials, lesson plans, explanatory information and guides enable teachers and learners to explore information about more than 33,000 Middle Passage voyages, exploring places of origin and destination, mortality rates, gender ratios and other information. •  Rationale and aims in using the Voyages database •  Guide to using the database •  Introductory presentation •  Presentation with source exercises •  Lesson plans for using the Voyages database Katie Hunter

  6. Resources Active Skills Development exemplar Presentation focused on Active Skills Development using the Atlantic Slave Trade for material. Was created for use from BGE to Higher qualification, used material available online and had input from Professor Simon Newman and Stephen Mullen from University of Glasgow. ‘It wisnae us’ Slavery and its impact on Glasgow A series of lessons based on Stephen Mullen’s book ‘It Wisnae Us – The Truth About Glasgow and Slavery’, the lessons focus on a Glasgow’s role in the Slave Trade. The lessons are aimed at Nat 3/4 and will be finished with a tour around Glasgow from Stephen. Me!
