  2. PERSONNEL SECURITY INVESTIGATION • Auxiliarists in AP status may not be issued a Common Access Card (CAC). By definition of CAC authorization terms, an Auxiliarist must have received a Favorable OS PSI determination and have submitted the appropriate NAC package in order to be authorized CAC issuance.

  3. PERSONNEL SECURITY INVESTIGATION • Upon joining, a new member will be given an official Employee ID Number (EMPLID). Activities and accomplishments will be recorded in the Auxiliary Data System (AUXDATA). • Auxiliarists in AP status shall remain in such status, as reflected by AUXDATA, until receipt of a Favorable PSI determination.

  4. PERSONNEL SECURITY INVESTIGATION • An Auxiliarist who, for whatever reason, disenrolls or retires from the Auxiliary and then attempts to re-enroll without ever having obtained a Favorable PSI determination, shall be processed as any other Auxiliarist in AP status in terms of PSI processing.

  9. KEEPING NEW MEMBERS INTERESTED Factors that keep members engaged: • Being involved in Flotilla activities • Becoming “part of the group” • Contributing in some meaningful way • Seeking new personal goals • Achieving qualifications

  10. INVOLVING NEW MEMBERS • Assign a mentor • Develop a training program • Acquire a uniform – which one? • Get BQ’ed if only IQ

  11. MENTORS Mentors are experienced members that are formally pair up with other members to help show them the ropes and provide emotional support and encouragement on an ongoing basis.

  12. MOTIVATION AND SATISFACTION Members are more motivated and satisfied when someone else helps them: • Resolve their problems • Develop skill competencies • Build an exciting development plan

  13. COACHING Coachingis the ongoing process of helping employees improve their work performance. • Continuously assess ways to improve • Create a supportive climate • Influence members to change their behavior

  14. COUNSELING Counseling is the discussion of an emotional problem in order to resolve it, or help the member cope with it better.

  15. DEALING WITH DISCIPLINARY ISSUES There are twelve questions you must address in beginning the disciplinary process: • Is the problem serious enough to warrant discipline? • Is there any possibility that this member could claim unfair treatment or circumstance? • Is the action being taken both objective and fact based?

DEALING WITH DISCIPLINARY ISSUES • Have all procedures been followed in accordance with Auxiliary policies? • Does the documentation clearly support evidence of poor performance or behavior? • Have you attempted every reasonable resource available in addressing the issue prior to entering into disciplinary action?

DEALING WITH DISCIPLINARY ISSUES • Have you consulted with Division officers,, legal counsel, or any other parties with an interest in this action? • Is this action consistent with similar situations, past and present? • Have you thoroughly looked into all unusual or mitigating circumstances?

  18. TRAINING NEW MEMBERS Mentors develop training opportunities by learning about members’: • Interests • Personal skills and knowledge base • Reason for joining • Baseline knowledge needed to participate

  19. POSSIBLE INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES • Participate in PE classes as an aide • Participate in Vessel Examination blitz • Participate in a Public Affairs event • Participate in Operations as a trainee • Bring the new member to a conference

  21. DEVELOPING BOATING EXPERIENCE Give members basic training to get them started: • An AUXOP course like AUXSEA or PATROLS • VE training • PV training • APC course/Leadership course • Boat crew training

  22. BOAT CREW TRAINING • FC assigns in writing a MENTOR for boat crew trainees (crew or coxswain). • The Mentor is responsible for: • Developing a training plan/program • Monitoring training progress • Certifying that the trainee has masteredeach task

  23. PROVIDE FEEDBACK • Feedback conveys to members that you care about how they’re doing. • Feedback can induce a member who previously had no goals to set some. • Feedback tells members how well they’re progressing toward their goals.

  24. PERSONNEL SECURITY INVESTIGATION • A Personnel Security Investigation (PSI) will be processed as part of enrollment and must have a favorable determination to complete one’s membership in the Auxiliary. • Each new member will have a PSI completed, which includes fingerprinting and a background check. A member can be Operational Support (OS) or Direct Operational (DO) in terms of the level of PSI (information on each is explained in the Auxiliary Manual).

PERSONNEL SECURITY INVESTIGATION • In the event of an Unfavorable PSI determination that leads to disenrollment, only the total amount of dues paid up to that time by the individual shall be reimbursed to the individual. • Auxiliarists in AP status are not authorized to be issued an Auxiliary ID card. They may receive an Auxiliary ID card only upon receipt of a Favorable PSI determination.
