  2. 1919 > 2009 > Present In 2009, BPW NYS voted to change its name to New York State Women, Inc. To Build Powerful Women Personally, Professionally and Politically Is a membership organization with over 600 members • The National Organization was founded in 1919 • To Achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information • Voted in 2009 to dissolve BPW/USA and merge with BPW Foundation

  3. Our History Women’s Equality Day August 26, 1920 Women Celebrate the Passage of the 19th Amendment granting them the right to vote

  4. In the 1970s, Women march in Washington supporting ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, which BPW/NYSW first formally endorsed on July 17, 1937.

  5. Equal Pay Day: April 8, 2014 To underscore the economic inequity women face in their jobs, BPW launched its Red Purse Campaign with the theme “Better Pay for Women” in 1987.

  6. 2003 marked the 75th Anniversary of National Business Women's Week™. In recognition of the vital role of women in business, leaders of BPW/USA and the BPW Foundation rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Tuesday, October 21, 2003. This was the first time in the history of the NYSE that ONLY women were on the platform to ring the bell.

Binghamton, Norwich/Tri-Town, Susquehanna, Walton • Lake to Lake Women, Professional Women of Finger Lakes, Southern Finger Lakes, Steuben County, Yates County • Buffalo Niagara, Chadwick Bay, Clarence, Grand Island,, Jamestown, Lake Shore, Niagara Frontier

One of the mentoring programs of the Personal & Professional Development Programs. Members or potential members who have had a career or volunteer change or advancement and can document their personal growth • CDO • Career Development Opportunity This affiliated organization of NYSW is a tax exempt fund that promotes out-reach programs and further professional development of Women and high school girls

At the State level, they are the President, President-Elect, First and Second Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer • GLG • The Grace LeGendre Endowment Fund, Inc. This affiliated organization of NYSW is a tax exempt fund that awards fellowships annually to graduate students. AKA GLEF • ID • The Individual Development Program. The name was changed in 2009 to the Personal & Professional Development Programs. • LC • Local Chapter

A mentoring program for potential or current members between ages of 21 and 32 who have a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 3 years in their present position and can document their professional growth. • NYSW • New York State Women, Inc. Founded in 1919 as the Business & Professional Women’s Club • PD • Political Development Program. This program is designed to mentor a member or potential member through the legislative or advocacy process. • PPD • The Personal and Professional Development Programs: CR, NC & PD that culminate in a speech competition at the NYSW Annual conference. 1st place winners are awarded $500, 2nd place $300 and 3rd place $200.

ABC’s of NYSW (4 of 4) • RD • Region Director • 2009 • The Year NYSW voted to change its name from BPW; also discontinued or changed the programs trademarked by BPW • WHM • Women’s History Month (March) • WJF • Women Joining Forces. A mentoring program for women in the military or transitioning to civilian life. In 2009 changed its name to the Athena Society. • YC • Young Careerist program. In 2009 the program was changed to New Careerist (NC) Program.
