  1. WORKSHOPONINTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE IN MINING[Session: Technology, Safety & Research]Ahmedabad: 21st May 2013

  2. LIGNITE MINING IN GUJARAT:Gujarat has over 2700 million Tonnes of Lignite Reserves:- Only about 40 % (i.e. 1000 mT) Mineable by Surface Mining - Rest 60 % (1700 mT) needs technologies like UCG.UCG is not tried even on Pilot scale in India. Technology needs to be developed to exploit these lignite reserves.Pit & Dump Slope Stability: Threat to Lignite Mining Increasing depth of opencast mines necessitates more research to find out better strata control technologiesDesigning of safe & stable slopes, Working out Safe Working parameters (limiting depths, etc.),Effective Prediction, Detection & affordable Warning Systems.

  3. COAL & LIGNITE MINING IN INDIA:Large quantity of Coal / Lignite Reserves are locked in batter:Development & Undertaking of Highwall Mining Projects. Lignite has high sulphur / pyrite contents:Technologies for Desulphurization and separation of Pyrite Nodules.Excavation of Hard Strata / Alternatives to Blasting.Long Distance Transportation: not very cost effective.- Liquefaction &Transportation in liquid form, - Surface gasification & Transportation of Gases. Mining of deep Seated Coal Deposits: Coal to Liquid Technology.

  4. MINERAL BENEFICIATION AND VALUE ADDITION PROJECTS: Exploitation of Small but qualitatively rich deposits:[like Ambaji Base Metal deposit]Value Addition of Silica Sand.Recovery of Low grade mineral from old dumps of mineral rejects.Utilization of tailings & Mineral wastes.Development of Mining Methods for recovery of Marble from greater depths.Development of Technologies which can allow mining within eco-sensitive zones.

  5. MINING MACHINERY:Technological Development in Heavy Earth Moving Machinery and Underground Mining Machinery:- Better Fuel efficiency, - Eco-friendly, - Cost effective higher capacity machinery, and - Technologies which can provide better availability.APPLICATION of IT in MINING:Use of Cost-effective Software in Mine Planning & Designing.Sophistication in Mine Surveying Equipment,Mineral Exploration and modeling,Cost-effective Vehicle Tracking Systems,Computerization for Machinery Performance Data,Use of satellite imageries.
