  5. 7.3.3 Explain the process of transcription in prokaryotes, including the role of the promoter region, RNA polymerase, nucleoside triphosphates and the terminator. • RNA polymerase binds to promoter on DNA • DNA is unwound • Nucleoside triphosphates (NTPs) bind to the antisense (template) strand • This occurs in 5’ 3’ direction using complimentary base pairing (adenine binds to uracil and cytosine binds to guanine) • New bonds are formed by the loss of two phosphates from the nucleoside triphosphate (NTPs) • This stops once the terminator signal is reached • RNA detaches and DNA rewinds • RNA polymerase detaches from DNA
