PACT Council • Community translation includes bi-directional exchanges of ideas and information through equal research partnerships and mutual respect between communities and researchers. • The work of the PACT will build on current health and social science research and best practice. There are new discoveries to be made and best practices to be developed in translation and community-based participatory research.
 • The PACT Council is the governing body of the PACT and is responsible for ensuring that the PACT acts according to its mission and purpose. The PACT Council is authorized by the CCTSI director to be the governing body for the development and operation of the PACT and charged to • Determine procedures and policies necessary and sufficient to assure timely achievements • Serve as the body authorized to commit, or refrain from committing, the partnership and its resources to particular endeavors • Assure collaboration with Colorado Multiple Institutional Review Board (COMIRB)Initiate and coordinate requests for necessary additional funding from government and private entities to support the work of the PACT • Provide practical and ongoing training and capacity building in community-based participatory research for academicians and community members • Assist engagement nationally with other CTSA awardees and like-minded organizations • Recommend approaches for strategic dissemination of results from the work of the partnership

  6. CCTSI Community Engagement Pilot Grant Program Improving Translational Research Through Community-Academic Partnerships

Purpose: Community Engagement Pilot Grants Program The goal of translational research is to narrow the gap between what we know based on research advances and what we actually do to improve health and health services. The PACT is committed to developing a broad-based translational research enterprise that results in reduced barriers and improved health for people and communities across geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic boundaries.

  8. Available Funds for CE Pilot Grants • The PACT allocates approximately $200,000 total funds each cycle++, with allocation of funds based on the number and quality of applications received in both categories: • A – Joint Pilot Projects: Awards can range from $10,000 to $30,000 (total budget for community and academic partners combined), depending on the number of projects selected. Funding amounts above $30,000 will not be reviewed favorably unless there is compelling rationale for a higher amount. No applications exceeding $50,000 will be considered. • B – Partnership Development: We will fund up to $10,000 for partnership development (total budget for community and academic partners combined), with awards ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. No applications exceeding $10,000 will be considered. ++AT LEAST half of funds must go to community partner.

Colorado Immersion Training in Community Engagement Program Premise: Community engagement is essential to translating research into clinical practice and ultimately improving the health and well-being of the population. Objective: To rapidly expand the pool of scientists and researchers with knowledge and skills to effectively and respectfully partner with Colorado communities for improved translational research. How: • By providing practical and ongoing training and capacity building in Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) to academic research fellows, junior investigators and their research staff, and community members. • By mentoring new investigators in community translation research.

Academic Immersion: How did it go? “I have a new perspective on why doctors do research – why they spend time seeing patients AND doing research.” “Primary care practices are not just doing us a favor by participating in research projects. They are contributing to something much bigger.” “Researchers have as much passion for their work as I do.” “As liaisons we are gatekeepers for the community. But maybe we are also gatekeepers for the University. How can we open those gates to more community members?”

I had to do some soul searching.” “This was exactly what I needed, although I didn’t know I needed it before.” “What I knew in my brain traveled to my heart.” “Immersion gives you a better sense of how to guide your research.” “I learned things I would never learn at a conference.”
