  2. Primary Objective: To produce a methodology for identifying archaeological tanning processes based on changes in the skin’s dermal structure. • Short Term Goal: • Produce a sample collection

  3. Mid Range Goal: • Microscopically analyse , photograph and record/describe the sample collection. • Use methodology produced to analyse archaeological samples of preserved hide items. • Long Term Goals: • To excavate and analyse a small number of samples buried at the start of the project. • To bury more samples in a greater range of environments in the UK, Europe and the US to be excavated at a later date as possible post-doc. work.
