April 15, 2014 • crude- Being in an unrefined or natural state; lacking tact or taste; blunt or offensive • Example: The essay that you handed in is very crude, but with some editing, it can be great. • meager-deficient in quantity or quality; lacking fullness or richness; inadequate; low in amount, strength, or valueExample: Although Sophie came from meager beginnings, she is now a duchess!

April 16, 2014 • enact-to establish by legal and authoritative act; to make into an act or statute; to perform • Example: The government plans to enact a law banning anyone under 16 from using tanning beds. • dilute-To make thinner or less concentrated by adding a liquid such as water; To lessen the force, strength, purity, or brilliance of • Example: When a baby is little, you have to dilute his juice with water.

April 25, 2014 • rout-A disorderly retreat or flight following defeat; an overwhelming defeat; a disorderly crowd of people • Example: After the rout, the morale of the army was low. • pauper-person without any means of support; person who depends on aid from public welfare funds or charity • Example: Because he worked hard, James went from a pauper to the CEO of a business. Test: Monday, May 5th

April 30, 2014 • evasive- Intentionally vague or unclear; describes one who deliberately avoids giving clear direct answers to questions; not honest or direct • Example: His answers were evasive, which made is mother think he was lying about doing his homework. • medium (pl. media)- represents a condition midway between extremes; a publication or broadcast that carries advertising; the materials or methods used by an artist • Example: Chalk is the medium Justin used to create the picture. Test: Monday, May 5th
