  1. Vocab Warm-up, 10/5/11 Using at least 5 of your vocabulary words, write a paragraph that includes an epithet. An epithet is a compound adjective used in place of a character’s name that points out special features or characteristics of that character. For example, “Queen of Room 72,” or “Favorite teacher of all” for Mrs. Thorson. Be sure to underline/highlight your words in your paragraph.

  2. My Uncle Dale, “a man of large girth,” is full of lassitude about finding a job. He and his coterie of buddies spend hours playing video games online. He prefers the ambiance of life at home to that of the real world. Although many people look at him askew for his lifestyle choices, he is happy. It enrages him when his wife asks him to get a job, and he needs some propulsion to stop drinking and smoking. Overall Uncle Dale, “a man of large girth,” is not someone I admire. Example:
