HVOF as a Hard Chrome Replacement • Current Status and Recent Accomplishments • E-6A MLG Lock Hook Shaft installed on second Aircraft • Second P-3 MLG Piston coated with WC/Co 83/17 HVOF coating To be used in P-3 SLAP/SLEP - Full Scale Fatigue Test Funded by Naval Research Lab (NRL) Testing to begin August 2001 (24 month test) • Four EA-6B Landing Gear components HVOF coated at Engelhard (Meeting at NAVAIR/PAX River 13 April 00 to discuss) (Flight Clearance Still Pending at NAVAIR) • P-3 Bomb Bay Door Actuator Pistons coated, ground, & superfinished Four BBD Actuator Assemblies RFI and to be installed on VP-30 Aircraft May 01 • J52 Rear Compressor Drive Turbine Shaft #5 bearing journal coated and ground • J52 Main Oil Pump Drive Spur Gears coated and ground to a 2 micro inch finish • Provided HVOF grinding training using Diamond Superabrasives at Hill AFB • Six TF34 ARI Components coated and ground • TF34 50 hr. ASMET engine run completed

Devereaux - Initial AMEC comments incorporated - Specification review by grinding wheel manufacturers completed - Grinding wheel manufacturer’s comments incorporated - Ph.D. consultant and Ph.D. Professor @ UCONN comments incorporated - Spec. to be submitted to AMEC at June meeting

HVOF as a Hard Chrome Replacement Current Status of HVOF Coated EA-6B Main Landing Gear Flight Clearance MLG Collar and Piston coated Oct. 99 Components completed depot processing Dec. 99 Flight clearance requested Jan 00 Meeting at NAVAIR/Pax River 13 April 00 Obtained NAVAIR approval of data May 00 Flight clearance at AIR 4.3.3 waiting final approval

NAVAIR & NRL meeting 29 Jan 01 Large sample (2”-3” dia) testing discussed NAVAIR (Dr. Eui Lee) to conduct testing Flight clearance at AIR 4.3.3 waiting final approval
