  1. Frida Kahlo Art by Frida Kahlo 1907- 1954

  2. Interpretation We think that this painting is set in New York because in the background you can notice The Statue of Liberty and a city. We also believe that this was when Frida might have been poor. Our evidence is the fact that the clothesline’s string is tied to a toilet and a trophy. We think that Frida Kahlo may be interested in painting abstract paintings. We think Frida may enjoy painting out-of-this-world, abnormal paintings because of the trophy attached to a toilet.

  3. Information • Frida Kahlo was born July 6,1907, in the town of Coyocoan, Mexico. She started painting when she was horribly injured in an accident involving a bus and was bedridden for months. She soon became one of Mexico’s most famous painters! Later in her life, she married Diego Rivera. But the marriage ended in November of 1939. She died fifteen years later.

  4. Quotes • “The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to.” ~ Frida Kahlo • “I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone…because I am the subject I know best.” ~ Frida Kahlo • “I am not sick..I am broken..but I am happy to be alive as long as I can paint.” ~ Frida Kahlo

  5. ? Questions ? • If the bus accident had never happened, would you still have painted? • What’s your favorite painting that you’ve ever made? • Has Diego inspired any of your paintings? • Have you always been so confident about painting? • Did you have a child? • Some viewers find your images disturbing, particularly the ones with bloody imagery. What can you say about that?
