  4. SAT • Register on www.collegeboard.com • Critical Reading • Math includes Algebra II • Writing section • Scoring (2400 highest possible score) • 200-800 Math • 200-800 Writing • 200-800 Critical Reading • Score Choice Option Available

  5. SAT Subject Tests (aka SAT II) • Various subjects • One hour long • Maximum three per test date, not optimal • Register same as SAT Reasoning • Scores sent by student to each school applying to • Not required for all colleges • Score Choice Option Available

  6. ACT • ACT • Register on www.ACTstudent.org • Also used for college admissions • Different scoring scale: 1-36 • May be used in place of SAT and/or SAT II • Score Choice Option • If reporting, student sends score to applicable schools • Writing section optional, but recommended

Categories of Competitiveness • Most Competitive: 97+ GPA, SAT 650-800 each sec. • Highly Competitive: 93+ GPA, SAT 600+ each sec. • Very Competitive: 85+ GPA, SAT 550+ each sec. • Competitive: 80+ GPA, SAT 500+ each sec. • Less Competitive: under 80 GPA,SAT under 500 each sec. • Noncompetitive/Two year colleges: HS graduate, must submit SAT or ACT scores The above GPA and SAT score ranges are approximate, and may change from year to year.

  13. What College Majors Interest Me? • Choice of Major: i.e.: engineering, architecture, physical therapy, nursing, etc. Vs. • Liberal arts/undecided

  14. Stay at Home or Go Away: How to Decide Either way, consider this: • Size of campus, number of students • Co-ed or single sex • Secular or religious affiliations • Sports and extra curricular programs • Private vs. state schools (cost) • Two year colleges vs. four year colleges

  15. Staying Home? Consider This: • Commuter costs • Live at Home?? Pay dorm fees?? • Limits college choices by location • On site/ On-the-spot admissions programs • The economy
