  4. Home for Bible Translators in Jerusalem, Inc was opened on 1 March 1994, by Halvor & Mirja Ronning. 

  5. Home for Bible Translators in Jerusalem, Inc was opened on 1 March 1994, by Halvor & Mirja Ronning. The vision of this Home for translators is to deepen the knowledge of language of the Bible and of the land of the Bible, among those who respect and love the Word of God.

  6. With the help and support of the Hebrew University, students are given an accredited course to enable them to learn Biblical Hebrew to a high standard. The vision of this Home for translators is to deepen the knowledge of language of the Bible and of the land of the Bible, among those who respect and love the Word of God.

  7. With the help and support of the Hebrew University, students are given an accredited course to enable them to learn Biblical Hebrew to a high standard. This means that they can translate direct from the original texts into their mother tongue without having to go through an intermediary language.

  9. RESULT? Far greater translation accuracy. The students are also enabled to go on weekly field trips, through which they see sights and hear sounds described in the Bible that they will never experience in their own countries.

HALVOR and MIRJA RONNING are long time Christians residents in Israel, and well known in Christian and academic circles in Jerusalem. Halvor has a BA (St. Olaf College), BD (Luther Seminary), MA (Yale University). He is a high-level lecturer in the history and geography of the Land as well as a licensed guide of the land of Israel. Halvor is a scholar in the Hebraic background of the Gospels.

Mirja, a Finnish citizen, has had a Hebrew schooling since childhood, and has been a resident of Israel since 1949.  Mirja has a BA (Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, USA) and Graduate degrees in Scientific Translation and Clinical Psychology from the Hebrew University, as well as extensive studies in the Hebrew language.  Mirja conducts an ongoing Bible Translation project from the Hebrew to Finnish, and has published Genesis, Joel, Habakkuk, Obadiah, Ruth and Zechariah.  She has taught Biblical Hebrew and Bible translation in academic settings in Jerusalem for many years.  The Ronnings have resided in Jerusalem for more than 30 years, and have three children and five grandchildren.

  27. Students at the Home Officials of the United Bible Society and the Wycliffe Bible Translators have come, both as visitors and also as scholars. We have hosted Old Testament scholars working on commentaries and Pastors researching Jewish roots of the Christian faith.

  28. The home provides subsidized lodging so that the low fees include rent, electricity, water and use of the kitchen. Mother tongue Bible translators pay only US $16 per day [room & board - $480.00 per month] plus Hebrew University tuition fees
