KZN Department of Public Works core business • Two core business for KZN DOPW: • Delivery of Infrastructure • And Property Management • The department is responsible for delivery of its own infrastructure and Client departments (DOE, DOH & Other), • Typical infrastructure delivered by DOPW: • Capital projects i.e. New School, Clinics, Hospitals etc • Repairs & Rehabilitation i.e. Repair to existing structure i.e. School, Clinics etc • And Maintenance projects

Masakhe Emerging Contractor Development Programme (ECDP): • Masakhe Emerging Contractor Development Programme (ECDP) for Emerging Contractors CIDB grade 1 to 5, • Requirements for the database: • Compliant with CIDB/ registration, • Registration with Provincial Suppliers Database, • Valid Tax Clearance, • Masakhe ECDP application, • And Company Founding statement/ CK document
Masakhe ECDP Opportunities: • Bidding/ tendering opportunities, • Capacity Building: Training i.e. Filling of tender documents, Contracts, OHSA, etc. • Mentorship Programme • Access to finance, through partnerships: • DOPW/ DEDT • DOPW/ NURCHA • Accredited training: Construction Contractor Learnership Programme.

Masakhe ECDP: Achievement • 5662 Emerging Contractors registered on the database and 3341 (59%) are Women owned companies. • 8 Contractors mentored in 2009/10 fy • Capacity building: • 1053 Trained in 2008/09 fy • 547 Trained in 2009/10 fy. • 40 Contractors trained on NQF 2 training.

Professional Service Provider Programme: • Database of Professional services provider has been developed: • Professional Architect, • Professional Quantity Surveying And Engineers (Electrical, Civil, Structural and Mechanical) • Currently we have 389 Registered companies in PSP Database, which70 (18%) companies are women Companies.
