  1. Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions

  2. Participants Valeriya Maljavko (Blr) Roman Sverdlov (Blr) Ivan Chagarin (Blr) Darya Adamchuk (Blr) Olga Popkova (Blr) Supervisor Ph. D. Oleg Dmitrievich Maslov, FLNR

  3. Ion Exchange Separation of Cadmium and Rare Earth Elements Sector №8 Track Analysis of Uranium

  4. Scientific Problem: Cadmium purification Application: Possibility of 117mSn production from 116Cd on the 116Cd(α, 3n)117mSn reaction

  5. Equipment that was used Microtron MT-25

  6. Ion-exchange column Lavsan detector Gamma spectrometer With HP Ge detector

  7. Experimental Technique • To estimate the ion exchange separation of cadmium and rare earth elements, the mixture of CdSO4 with DyCl3 and NdCl3 has been irradiated at the Microtron MT-25by the bremsstrahlung beam of 22 MeV with the current of 5 µA during 2 h • Separation of Cd and rare earth elements by using ion-exchange column filled with anion-exchange resin Amberlite (IRA-401) in the presence of 2,5; 0,25; 0,02 mole/liter HCl was carried out • Activity of the irradiated mixture was measured by HPGe detector of the gamma spectrometer of FLNR, JINR with the energy resolution of 1,5 keV at gamma lines of 1333 keV for 60Co radionuclide • Track analysis of uranium was made in the received samples. The fission fragments produced by photons were recorded by lavsan detector (U(, f))

  8. Separation of cadmium and rare earth elements by the use of anion exchange column

  9. The gamma spectrum of the NdCl3 and DyCl3

  10. The gamma spectrum of Cd separated from Dy and Nd

  11. Track analysis of uranium

  12. Conclusion These experiments have shown a possibility of ion exchange separation of cadmium and rare earth elements for 117mSn radionuclide production. The content of uranium has been determined with the help of track method in the received samples.
